    Is this black algae?

Well, the algae is not smearing well. It is to hard for that. It loses the black coloration when dry with only the dark green remaining. I will try mining a few more pieces with larger black spots and try with another kind of paper but am not optimistic that I will find a slimy chunk. Any other...

    Is this black algae?

I hammered out a popoff in my plaster pool and found this algae. This was not visible from pool edge, but under the top layer of the popoff bubble. Green and Yellow algae are things I know how to deal with thanks to this site and great test kit, but black algae. Hold me I'm scared....

You are correct. A CYA of 80 would save me money in chlorine cost, but when the dreaded Yellow Mustard comes to visit I would have no option but to by an algaecide to combat it. So my money saved would be spent on algaecide. To me BBB is about keeping it simple. With my test kit reading FC at...

I have made notes to myself over the years as followed: Cal-Hypo increase Calcium Hardness (CH). Trichlor or Dichlor increase CYA. For every 10 ppm Free Chlorine (FC) added by Trichlor, it also increases Cyanuric Acid (CYA) by 6 ppm. For every 10 ppm FC added by Dichlor, it also increases CYA...

I regret not draining and refilling my pool when I bought the house I have now. Who knows what the former owners put in it. Your pool looks like a recent build. How old is it?

Nanofiltration of my fill water. What is up with that?

Thank you Jason, your wisdom precedes you. Now if I could just find a mad scientist who would work for free I think we could solve this with a million or two.

Nanofiltration of my fill water. What is up with that?

This answer is for simicrintz The RO is hooked up to both the hot and cold lines. The waste is pumped back into the hot water line and used. I was looking for something to hook up to my fill line and RO the fill water so it would not be a closed loop system. I am not sure about your other...
