    Trouble getting Bromine Spa started

current: Bromine (hopefully) 3.0 PH 7.5 TA 80 CH 150 Added 10 oz Borax (17.5 ppm Borates?) I have had a devil of a time stabilizing my water. I started with tap: PH 7.5 TA 20 CH 30 I added CH first to 120. Then added baking soda to 110. Then added sodium bromide for bank. I put in 6 oz...

Air in solar panels (Split from Filter line problems)

Same here. I direct 100% flow through the solar panels. The panels are after the filter and pump. However, those pipes stay under pressure even when the motor is stopped. I guess maybe water is too big to escape the panels, but when a vacuum is formed from the water falling out when the...

Scum Lines and the Scum Ball

You know, oddly enough, I think the ring is not a scum line. I think it is rubber residue from the rubber ring in the main pump motor. I think the ring has failed, which explains the leaking of the motor. And the ring material will not stick to the scum ball, and it's really hard to get off...

2 speed spa pump won't switch to low power mode

That is so cool, I had no idea. I'm totally going to check that out. Thanks for following up on this rather old post. It's still an intermittent problem. I'll let you know how it goes. I had know idea that box was the switch box.

Hayward spa gas heater in trouble

I used this metal thingy that has a screw and you tighten the screw and it tightens around the pipe. I had a cycling problem, like you said, and used insulation around it to solve that. Unfortunately, the corrosion in the exchanger was not limited to that one area and enough water flooded...

Langelier and Calcite Saturation Indices (LSI and CSI)

heh, finally getting back, now that I am opening the pool. I used a TDS of 3500. Now that it's open, I have fc 3 ph 7.8 cya 30 alk 80 hard 230 salt at 2100 (says the electronic meter) LSA is at 0.16. I added 2 cups of acid to go to 7.6 because I know the salt sell will increase it over...

Hayward spa gas heater in trouble

That is awesome, thanks for the link to the actual item. I agree, it's only $300 more, and this hayward just seems poor. Anyway, I found this putty epoxy used by plumbers, and filled the dry well the thermostat bulb goes in. That took care of the leak so far, but I lost my little hole for the...

Langelier and Calcite Saturation Indices (LSI and CSI)

I am working with chem geek's spreadsheet to keep my pool in balance. I've been watching the LSI and CSI and it is usually negative. I have some kind of gunite pool, although it is more modern. Not pebletek, but something like it. FC 7.5 CYA ~50 PH 8 TA 80 CA 290 45 Degrees F LSI -.20 CSI...

Hayward spa gas heater in trouble

Ok, I'll try to patch it since I have nothing to lose. Is the pentair heater something I could order and install myself or should I hire someone to do it. Also, I live in Atlanta, and have yet to have a pool person service my pool. Do you have any recommendations? Can you provide me a link...

Hayward spa gas heater in trouble

I have a Hayward H-Series draft induced spa heaster, 100K BTUs, natural gas model H100ID1. The heat exchanger failed. The heater is 7 years old. Should I replace the heat exchanger and thermostat myself to the tune of around $500, or replace the whole heater for about $1000? I do have one...

    Low tonight 32....pump?

The pipes are under pressure. I can't imagine freezing to be an issue until around 28 or so and only if it stays that low for more than 8 hours. And if you have a 2 speed, then wouldn't you be running it in low speed all the time? If I had a low speed on my pump, I wouldn't worry about...

Scum Lines and the Scum Ball

Thanks for the advise. I'll check it out. I think I still have some Spa Perfect left. Now I know what it is for. I bought a scumball, and the water line re-appeared again. Scumball is clean. I haven't been in the spa in a while -- no one has. Just too hot still. I'm a bit overdue for...

Refill Spa - Order of operations

I know after I fill the spa, I have to balance the water and add chlorine. I'm just not sure of the order of operations. I know it is important because one thing will affect another. I will need to add a bit of calcium, TA, Borax, Chlorine bleach, CYA, and maybe some acid. What order should...

Scum Lines and the Scum Ball

I have a chlorine spa, stabilized with 50-70ppm CYA and usually running around 3-6ppm Chlorine (bleach) with 50ppm Borates (in case I let it go, which I do sometimes -- no alge yet). I'd go bromine, but it kept poofing when we left the cover off. I keep the spa around 90-93 when not in use to...

    Chlorine Levels

FC 7 isn't really high at 70CYA. I have 80CYA and keep my pool between 6 and 8. It keeps it crystal clear. I measure mine after the pump has been running at least 30 min. If you measure in the morning, you might pick up a pocket where the chlorine has been busy and is used up. I generally...
