White substance collected by the pool cleaner

Thank you for your quick and detailed response, Rancho!! I had some time to do water tests for different water sources at my house, and below are my results: Tap Water Outdoor (My current water source to add water to pool, and I do have a water softener at home) PH 8 TA 100 CH 75 Tap Water...

White substance collected by the pool cleaner

Thank you for the reply! I noticed there are some white scale on the tiles around the water line, and it looks like the flakes are coming from the scale. Attached is the picture of the tiles. I don’t have the flakes from the cleaner anymore, but when I tried to put some muriatic acid on the...

White substance collected by the pool cleaner

I have a in-ground 16,000-gallon plaster pool which is about 20 years old and I own it for the last 3.5 years. My pool cleaner starts collecting the white pieces of substances for the last few times I cleaned. I mainly use liquid chlorine and muriatic acid to balance the pool chemistry. I...

Expensive to keep using liquid Chlorine

I took the advice from the forum to drain 80% of my pool water last July because of my high CYA (>100). Since then, I have been using the Taylor’s K-2006C test kit, liquid Chlorine and Muriatic Acid to balance the water chemistry and have stopped using Chlorine tablets. In this summer, I found...

I went back to Lesile's today...

Hi All, I went back to Lesile's today and wanted to buy their 31% muriatic acid. I also asked them to do a water test for me hoping I can compare their results with my own test using my Taylor kits after replacing 75% of pool water with tap water about 2 weeks ago. Lesile's result (Their...

Just did my first test and feel kinda LOST...

I did a water test for FC and PH again today. FC: 5ppm PH: 8 1. I haven’t added any LC since I added 1.25 gal LC yesterday and got 10.6 ppm FC, but it drops to 5ppm in a day. Is this normal? If not, how many ppm does it normally drop in a day? 2. My PH remains high at 8, and I plan to drop...

After adding the 1.25 gal of LC, my FC result is now 10.6ppm. I really don't get it. Thanks! Mike

Just did my first test and feel kinda LOST...

My pool is 16,000 gallons, and below is a picture of the LC I was using. On 4/25, I was using the HDX LC that I bought from Home Depot last year, and I was able to raise my FC to 9ppm back then. Since I went out of HDX LC, I bought the KEMTEK LC from Lowe's a couple weeks ago. I reported my...

Just did my first test and feel kinda LOST...

My family member helped me to add 0.75 gallon of LC with the pump on this afternoon. I just tested my FC, and it’s 5.2. 1. Is it because my PH is slightly high 7.8-8, so it’s affecting how LC is reacting in my pool? Should I add muriatic acid to slightly bring down my PH before adding my more...

Just did my first test and feel kinda LOST...

Now my FC test result is 4.4ppm. This is after adding a total of 2 gallons of liquid chlorine and 70-80% water change. 1. Just to confirm, the Julian date on the liquid chlorine box is in fact the manufacture date not the expiration date, correct? 2. Since my CYA is around 55-60, my next step...

Yes. I bought these liquid chlorine two weeks ago. The dates on the box is Julian dates 20076. That’s roughly March 16, 2020, and that should be manufacture date not the expiration date, correct? If that’s the case, what else did go wrong that my FC remains zero? Thanks again! Mike
