Wild Animals Friends That Like to Use My Pool

Yeah, we've definitely seen hawks eating other birds around here. Just the other day we noticed a few feathers drifting down from our roof. Went out to look and there was a hawk enjoying what I think was a robin.

Wild Animals Friends That Like to Use My Pool

I had a magpie thoroughly enjoying itself on the solar cover one morning, splashing round in a bit of the pool water that had settled on top.

    SWCG Failing?

I assume you have the 40K gallon model. That can produce 1.25lbs of chlorine/day (https://www.nature2.com/-/media/zodiac/global/downloads/h/h0330100.pdf). Plugging that into the calculator (SWGCalculator.xlsx) you'll be producing < 2ppm of FC/day. That's likely less than you're losing.

    What's your current pool temp?

When we had a few hot days here, got the pool to 84 I think it peaked at. Currently about 77, been cool and rainy for about a week. This weekend is looing hot again, so I'm betting with the solar heater running, we'll see above 80 by Saturday afternoon. Not bad for Canada and not using the NG...

Please, help me understand the TFP way and why anyone would want to work on their pool daily?

Not so much a flogging, but it seems like you're not following the advice here, or only partially. By using pucks, you're CYA is going to go way up and become unsustainable. Looking at your logs, it looks like you're at 100, which is probably already too high to realistically maintain your...

    Thinking of Conversion

I had a similar setup, though no backflow prevent, and just did it all on the horizontal. The salt cell and the flow switch all count as straight pipe for the minimum distance install. It'll probably save you a bit of work doing it that way.

Basic Question on SWG and additional chlorine needed

I converted my pool to salt mid last season. Only liquid chlorine I used since then is during the closing SLAM and the opening SLAM. Other than that, it's just a bit of tuning on the panel for generator percentage and pump run times. I'm still coming down from the opening SLAM, and getting my...

    Turnover Myth

Going by the calculator, to replace just 1ppm at 6% in a 8700 gallon pool, you'd need to run your pump for 72.6 hours... per day. I can't even set my SWCG to 6% on my Prologic panel. I get 1% increments from 1-5, then by 5% from 5-100.

    Turnover Myth

Definitely covered the majority of the time when not in use. Even now, coming off the opening SLAM, I'm running around 50% for 6 hours/day and my FC is dropping about 1ppm per day, which is right about what I'd expect. Now, the cover is a "solar cover" that partially translucent, so there's...

    Turnover Myth

Forgive me, but is that a typo? I have a Hayward T9 as well, and happen to live in the same area as you. I'm generally running my pump for about 6-8 hours at 60-75% to generate around 2ppm/day of FC in my pool, at least going from the calculator here: SWG Run Time Calculator

    TFP Meet the Expert!

Just watched the video, thanks so much all. Nothing ground breaking new for me, but I really appreciated the discussion. Would absolutely watch more.

    Another Line Blow Out Question

Yeah, I think doing sections at a time with a small compressor works fine, just as you said, can be a bit more time consuming. I was considering looking into a cyclone, but honestly, my air compressor did just fine, so I don't think I'll bother.

    Another Line Blow Out Question

When I switched to the air compressor, I set the filter to closed to isolate the suction side, and then since I have a valve for the main drain and one for the skimmer, I was able to do each individually on the suction side. Then I shut both of those (main while still under pressure), and set...

    Another Line Blow Out Question

Hooked up the air compressor to a drain line on the pump after trying a few times with the shop vac on the skimmer, and had much better luck. I was fortunate that the threaded end on my hose was the same size as the plug on the pump. My little air compressor was barely up the task. I had to...

bottoms are definitely drains in my case.
