    Dry skin. Salt or borates?

JohnN, I'll be interested to know what you find. My pH doesn't like to go below 7.3 (which is a good thing) unless I really drop it with MA to 7.1. I think it's because of the weaker MA that I use that it's not very effective. Once I use it up, I'll switch to the stronger stuff. Hi Dave...

    Dry skin. Salt or borates?

JohnN, I'll be sure to let you know how it goes if I add anything. :-D Dickeystorm, you lucky duck! Glad you're able to proceed with the borates now! Chem Geek and Y_not, I range, depending on the weather and bather load from 4-7 and have always noticed the dryness. (Maybe we...

    Dry skin. Salt or borates?

Well, going back to my original question, what can I add to my pool (if anything) to make it softer and keep it from drying out considering my TA issue?

    Dry skin. Salt or borates?

About once a week I fill to the fill-line due to the kids splashing it all out. That's why I figure my TA just refuses to go down. You can see it start to dip after adding MA, but then I'll add water a couple days later and it stops the process.

    Dry skin. Salt or borates?

Hi, Jeff- It's raising all the time. I find that I have to add MA about once a week.

    Dry skin. Salt or borates?

Hi, Charlie! It would take some serious effort for me to get it down that far, what with all the splash-out and filling that goes on here. I don't know if it's worth it just to make the water softer.

    Dry skin. Salt or borates?

Hi, Y_not! Ooooh, we used to live in Bend! How we loved it! Redmond sure seemed to be growing when we drove through there a couple of months ago. :-D To answer your questions: - The pH of my hose bib is: 8.0 and TA: 160 (and I wipe my tip; I'm very careful with this test and have...

    Dry skin. Salt or borates?

Okay, gotcha. I went and read through "How to lower TA" with clearer eyes. That's what I get when I fly through chemistry. Thanks, Jcowart and WoodyP!!! So, I've actually been consistently lowering my TA via muriatic acid and it just wants to stay around 140. I'm guessing it's my...

    Dry skin. Salt or borates?

Hi, Woody! FC: 7 (been keeping it a little higher since we have lots of swimmers every day and hoooot weather going on) CC: 0 pH: 7.4 TA: 140 CYA: 40 CH: (I only test it once a month since I have vinyl) You said, "Aeration will only raise my pH." I know it raises pH, but doesn't it lower my...

So I went to the pool store the other day...

Friday I went to our local pool store because I wanted to price the Speed Stir and reagents. A pool clerk came up to me and this was our convo: Him: "Can I help you with anything?" Me: "No thanks, I'm just looking at your reagents. (Nothing was priced.) How much is your Speed Stir?" Him...

Installing Intex sand filter 2650 g/hr

Everything I read said to cut the holes larger, so that's what I did on mine. I have the pump that is a little smaller than yours and it's super easy to cut the holes out. USE A FRESH BLADE and don't cut the holes too small. It actually causes it to leak. :goodjob: EDIT: BTW, I tried...
