    Pool cover question...

We have a 24' AGP that has around 13,000 gallons. Have had good luck with doing it as your directions state, with one exception. We add an air pillow inflated about 75% to allow the forming ice to push on the pillow instead of the sides of the pool. Sometimes the pillow breaks, other times it...

Conversion Factor to convert 20% MA to 31.45% MA

Thanks to all. Yes, it is definitely 20%, and not 20 Baume. Supposedly 90% less fumes, while not watered all the way down to 15%. About the same price as the high test, though (must be a lot of work getting that water in there!) I looked up the MDS on the manufacturer's web site. It is...

Conversion Factor to convert 20% MA to 31.45% MA

I need to add MA to my pool. I can only find the 20% stuff locally right now. Does anyone know the conversion factor between the 20% stuff and the 31.45%? I thought I remembered seeing it discussed on the forum in the past, but can't locate it now (as in: Anybody seen my keys, glasses, etc.)...

Sudden Spike in pH, TA, and CYA

That is my plan... now. LOL Then the drop in temp has no discernible effect on pH/TA nor CYA?

Sudden Spike in pH, TA, and CYA

6.0 FC. Pool Math says to run my FC at 4 ppm. I usually run it closer to 5-5.5 ppm in case I miss a day or forget until after dark. I make my target in Pool Math 7.0 and let it drift down to 5.5 by the next day. Too high???

Sudden Spike in pH, TA, and CYA

Thanks for your quick response. This is my first year on bleach after a spring Baquacil conversion. All has gone swimmingly  until now. I actually did not let the water warm to room temp for the CYA test. Didn't remember reading that. I'll give it a shot. What about the pH spike...

Sudden Spike in pH, TA, and CYA

I have been preparing my pool for closing over the past 10 days. I have monitored chlorine and pH every day. I am filtering 12 hours a day, as normal. My pool temp has gone from 85 degrees down to 53 degrees today. Several nights with temps in the high 20's to low 30's have helped. Today, I...

    Pool closing in Northeast

MommaHuffman, I used to worry about that as well. Actually, you would probably never have to change the sand. I would do it if I ever replaced the filter, but only then. Think about it...the ocean pounds this sand for millions of years, then we harvest it, bag it, and sell it to pool owners...

What’s the best way to lower alkalinity without lowering pH?

Bradleyofkansas and mknauss, I was going to start a thread to ask why my pH is drifting downward from 7.6 to 7.2, while my TA is stable at 110, where it's always been. Due to the grandkids going back in school, cool nights down to 45-50 degrees, and somewhat rainy weather, our pool has...

Winterizing Above Ground Pool in PA

Hi Kelli2, I'm also in PA, so I can relate. I normally wait until my water temp gets down to 50 degrees before closing. Algae can't grow at that temp. I then lower my water from normal to about 4" below the skimmer, a total of 7", and I use a pillow. If your pool doesn't use a skimmer...

    A few questions about converting

Anthony, that diagnosis sucks. You don't need more to deal with. Now the pump! I admire your stick-to-it no-matter-what attitude. Keep your head up; things HAVE to begin to go your way. You're waaaay overdue! Wishin' you all the best, man! Hang in there. :paddle:

    A few questions about converting

Anthony, great news on your water quality improvement. I don't blame you for not jumping into a conversion right now. You've apparently been living with a pool war for practically the entire summer. Pools stop being fun at that point. As long as there is only a month-and-a-half of swim...

    Backswimmers

I'm not a DR., but I play one on the internet. No, SERIOUSLY, if you feel a chlorine reaction is a real possibility, talk to a medical professional, as Leebo advised. (Just remember to check first if anyone in their family owns a pool store.) JUST KIDDING! (sorta)

    A few questions about converting

Anthony, sorry it took so long to respond. Yes, I do have a solid cover. I have never opened to a swamp, but I always prepare myself mentally for it, because I'm sure it will happen. Having TFP experts ready to help blunts the panic a lot! In the past, when closing, I never finalized the...

    A few questions about converting

Anthony, I feel your pain. We installed a 24' X 52" AGP in May of 2016. The installer sold me on Baquacil. Worked great for the 1st year and a half...then the dreaded white water mold appeared. Except, I didn't recognize it for that at the time. I found TFP and began reading and asking...
