Dealing with Pollen, A Nearby Tree, and Solar Covers

I have a 16' above ground pool that year after year I've battled tons of pollen from a nearby tree. Keeping the water crystal clear becomes a full time job for the first half of every swimming season, and our swimming season is short because mid august the pool falls into the 50's in temp :(...

OCLT passed, water is getting clearer, but not blue

So we just had a big rain storm just after I last posted, and here two days later the pool is looking different. Definitely less green. I haven't had a chance to add sequesterant nor use the polyfill bucket again. I'm thinking this may have been at least partially pollen after all. Still not...

OCLT passed, water is getting clearer, but not blue

Yes, we ended up adding maybe 60% to top it off for the season from the well. The color definitely reminds me of day two or three of the polyfill bucket method. What confuses me is that this year I did the polyfill bucket and it didn't really do anything at all. I have sequesterant on hand that...

OCLT passed, water is getting clearer, but not blue

Looking for some advice. Using sand filter as shown in my signature. We have a pool that's unfortunately partially positioned under a big tree. We have also had iron problems in the past with the well water. About a week ago we finally passed the OCLT and I've kept the chlorine high all week...

    Algae problem or filter problem?

I wanted to update everybody on the progress. I brought chlorine levels up to SLAM levels for a full week, and although we were not failing OCLT, I did start to notice less green at the bottom. After that, for the last ~3 weeks, I've been keeping Chlorine levels around 10-13 (40 CYA now) the...

    Algae problem or filter problem?

Unfortunately it's at my in-laws so I didn't have a chance to get an OCLT last night, I'll try tonight. Though that said, we have passed OCLT in the past week with the sediment present. So I'm not sure if it's live algae. Maybe it is but only a tiny bit. It settles on the floor in little clumps...

    Algae problem or filter problem?

Yeah I can see the bottom no problem. The water is clear until I brush or we swim. After that it only gets a little cloudy, you can still see the bottom but it loses the sparkle. I vacuum to filter because we can't easily refill. I have been backwashing when the pressure gets close to 25% above...

    Algae problem or filter problem?

I can't touch it. If you get near it, it immediately disappears into a small cloud. Filter pressure is very near it's starting pressure, I backwashed last week. It does increase after I vacuum. We keep the stairs out unless the pool is in use. I have washed them but the sediment comes back...

    Algae problem or filter problem?

Hi all. I struggled with a SLAM getting much of anything done last month with my crappy Intex paper filter so we recently switched to a sand filter and our pool is no longer cloudy and our overnight chlorine tests were dropping less than 1ppm overnight, so we stopped with 12 FC. But now every...

Struggling with Intex filter/pump 1500 gph and lots of visible pollen everywhere ( maybe algae)

Is it terrible to leave the pump on "filter" mode rather than waste when vacuuming? Our water has iron in it so I have to setup a bucket with polyfill every time we top off and I prefer to not lose water if I don't have to... I just re-read your comment. Yes! Also, attached are before / after...
