It is not possible to swap the positive and negative polarity on the motor due to miss wiring, but it is possible if you do not put the brush cap back on correctly...see my response below.

I run mine daily and it stays in the pool other than when I'm cleaning it. A brushless motor would be better. The brushes wear and the carbon from the brushes builds up and has no where to go and it will eventually fail...so it really does have a limited number of cycles before it fails.

I went ahead and pulled off the valve and will reassemble it tighter with pipe dope. I rebuilt the burner assembly with a new frame along with a new pilot but realized the pilot tubing (connects pilot to valve) was damaged, so had to order this. Looks like the replacement is slightly different...
