What's the worst thing you've found in your skimmer baskets?

Several cottonmouths before I learned to keep yard leaves vacuumed religiously. Found several frogs and a mouse before I got a critter ramp. I don't stick my hand in there anymore. No pics. Was too busy climbing the fence.

    Pump advice

Thanks, y'all. Just what I needed. Not only is the 6 y/o filter body cracked, but the entire plumbing setup shakes when I first turn it on like it's about to take flight. The previous owner said the pool electric bill doubled when he changed to higher hp so will downsize or get a 2-speed as...

    Pump advice

I recently purchased a new multiport valve assembly only to discover that my filter leak is coming from a crack in the filter body. Will be ordering new body today, but I'm worried that the crack was caused by previous owner's change from 3/4 hp pump to 1.5 hp pump. I obviously don't want my...

    Yet another filter issue

Thanks. Unfortunately, after my last post I went outside and just missed stepping on a cottonmouth despite my extensive snake prevention efforts (I'm severely phobic). To sum up my day: 3 hours cutting grass, migraine, crack in pool filter, cottonmouth. Worst birthday ever.

    Yet another filter issue

After further research, I've found a reasonably priced Waterway filter body. I read here somewhere that a larger body might be a good idea, though I'm not sure if it's warranted with my smallish 14X28 pool. Currently have a 22" diam. Also, I plan to drop back down to 3/4 hp motor when I can...

    Yet another filter issue

I posted previously about my leaking sand filter which I attributed to the multiport valve assembly. After buying a new o-ring, lubing it, trying varying degrees of tightening, etc, I finally just ordered a new assembly which hasn't yet arrived. Today, however, I discovered that the leak is...

    Persistent filter leak

Yep, the new one comes with it, plus the special wrench to tighten it. Will be several days before it arrives, but believe me, at this point I can take that sucker apart and reassemble it in my sleep.

    Don't give up.

As I posted previously in my intro thread, I've had seemingly every conceivable problem with the pool and equipment that came with my house that I purchased 8 months ago. This came after an exhaustive 1.5 year search for the right house, selling my previous home and buying this one, packing...

    Persistent filter leak

No band clamp on mine and only one way it can go. I must be the canary for the entire neighborhood. My neighbors sit calmly outside for hours with no problems while I douse myself with Listerine, run outside and clean the pool as fast as possible while doing the get-the-#%**-off-me dance...

    Persistent filter leak

As of yesterday my leak had become so bad that I lost apprx 2 inches of water in the pool yesterday so I gave up and purchased a new multi-port assembly this morning. I think the constant dampness on the ground under the leaking filter was also causing my unbearable mosquito problem. I've...

    Persistent filter leak

Sadly, tightening the bolt before securing the connector didn't help. Will continue to struggle with it this weekend.

    Persistent filter leak

Note te to self: Consult TFP experts instead of listening to some guy on YouTube. I'll try that tomorrow. Thanks.

    Persistent filter leak

Thanks, guys. The o-ring is on the underside of the port assembly where it makes contact with the top of the filter body. I can take it back apart and post pic when I get a chance. I've already replaced the o-ring and lubed it, though not with sealant, made sure surfaces were free of...

    Persistent filter leak

The port assembly itself isn't threaded. It sits on the filter body and the black flange at the top is rotated to tighten, then the bolt in the flange is tightened.
