Chlorine level dropping quick with Cal Hypo

Thanks. the HTC recently went way up in price here, so If I am adding that daily it might be worth it to use the liquid. So the term "shock" is meaningless? I could add a pound a day and it wouldn't hurt anything?

Chlorine level dropping quick with Cal Hypo

I recently switched from liquid chlorine to HTC Cal Hypo shock since I am not around as much this summer to add liquid twice a day. Initially I had good results, with 1lb lasting almost a week. Recently I have been using a pound every other day. Is this normal for a shock to burn off that...

    Pump speed for winter

No clue! Lol. That's what the pool company told me to do. However after dealing with them, I should know they don't know anything! How many hours should I run it a day in summer/winter? 930-6 seemed to work fine this summer. Never any water issues.

    Pump speed for winter

Thanks! Yes.. I got lucky last year.. drained everything about 3 hrs before we went black for 3 days! One thing I noticed about my Jandy pump is that it kicks on at about 45 degrees.. which is crazy. I have no idea how to change that and apparently neither does the pool installer. 45 seems high...

    Pump speed for winter

Thanks. I don't have a SWG so that speed should be plenty ..

    Pump speed for winter

I have a Jandy variable speed pump and run it at 3000 rpm from 930-6 daily in the spring-fall. How low can I go in the winter? I think last year, which was my first winter I did 2700rpm for about 6 hrs a day, but I have read some things where people go down under 2000 rpm...

    Solar Cover Recommendations

I agree. If they cant be used with a decent chlorine level, then they are worthless. I will get a cheap one for this season and see if it helps, maybe extend the swimming season into October!

Am I using too much liquid chlorine, not enough?

Will do. Checking the CYA seems pretty subjective to me. How do you check it? I make sure Im outside with good light behind me and add the solution until i cant see the black dot at all with 1 eye. Looking down through the liquid. I know test strips are the devil on this site but i still...

Am I using too much liquid chlorine, not enough?

So, Friday night I did the OCLT test, results below. It must be that my pool is blasted with sun from sunrise to around 630pm that the chlorine burns off so fast. I think ill do 1/2 the chlorine in the morning and 1/2 around 6 to keep the levels more stable. Friday 9pm: FC 5.8, CC 0.2 Sat...

Am I using too much liquid chlorine, not enough?

Sounds good, ill do that test tonight. That would explain why i cant get the FC up even with adding all that chlorine yesterday. Thanks!

Am I using too much liquid chlorine, not enough?

I will do the OCLT tonight to verify. When they say FAS-DPD test, that is just the FC test in my K-2006 test kit, correct? You are in the same area as me, do you use close to a gallon a day of chlorine? Is that a realistic amount?

Am I using too much liquid chlorine, not enough?

When I bump the CYA up to 50, the app uses my 0.4 FC and automatically puts in a target FC of 6. Changing the CYA to 50 raised the chlorine to 77oz. It just seems odd that adding 64oz only took me from 0.4 to 2.8. Maybe I waited too long to re-test and it burned off. Was sunny and 97 yesterday.
