Thanks for the replies already. Attached are some photos. The small size of the opening would appear to be a problem... from my searches, the smallest I found was about 4-11/16"x5-1/16"... too tall and too narrow. If you can find something closer, please let me know... even if it's not...

Just bought a house in Miami with an in-ground pool under a screen enclosure... it's been well-maintained and works fine, but probably pretty old. The weird thing is that it doesn't have a proper skimmer assembly... just an opening (like what a skimmer assembly would have) about 4.5"tall x 6.5"...
