New House, Old Pool, Can't get spa suction to work

Thank you, they were definitely plugs and now the spa has a suction ability! I was also able to break apart the red scales and vacuum much of it up. I checked with two types of strips and with the pool store. I was surprised to see that it wasn't iron, copper, or calcium. I'm at a complete loss...

Particulate in Water (will DE help)

The particulate I'm referring to isn't just floating on the top like pollen. It's more homogenous than that but I can only see it at night when the pool light is on.

New House, Old Pool, Can't get spa suction to work

I will try to wiggle them again in the morning. I have never seen anything like it so I didn't want to break it by trying too hard.

Particulate in Water (will DE help)

I read elsewhere that I need to add it (DE about 1-2 cups) after each time I backwash. Is this the same recommendation that you would provide. I've learned the TFP often has better advice than other places on the internet.

New House, Old Pool, Can't get spa suction to work

Hello, thanks for all of the help you provide to new people like me. I have a pool/spa combo and on the bottom of my spa are what I assume are two suction drains. However, there are also these red/brown hard as rock scales that are there and I can't get them to break off. Also, it looks like the...

Thank you. I'm going to give that a shot.

Particulate in Water (will DE help)

I have a sand filter. The water is nicely balanced and clear but at night when I look in front of the light, there is a lot of particulate matter just floating around. Would adding some DE to my sand filter after each backwash help to remove this particulate or is this something I will just have...

Spa Drains through jets only sometimes

Thank you, you're right, the spa was mostly aesthetic because of the spillover. My mother-in-law just likes the pool to look nice which is why we didn't cover it over winter. I'm sure there is definitely dirt in the water when it comes back in, crazy though, I thought there would be mud or some...

Spa Drains through jets only sometimes

Yes, I definitely need to do that. Ooof, I didn't consider the bacteria or other issues from pulling the water back in. This may lead me to discontinue the spa for the summer but is there any chance pouring diluted liquid chlorine into the hole each time I suck it back in that it will prevent...

Spa Drains through jets only sometimes

Thanks for your advice. However, when the valves are set to pool and the controller is set to pool, the spa doesn't leak. I would drain it but I prefer for it to work in some fashion. Since it doesn't drain in this mode, I will just leave it like this, and every evening I will run the spa...

Spa Drains through jets only sometimes

I agree, there must be something, but unless its underground somewhere I can't find an actuator that is attached to a valve. This actuator is plugged into the control panel but goes no where else. The system is old and we recently moved into this house a year ago.. so a lot of what we have...
