Does adding borates and acid impact FC?

I'm curious if the addition of all the acid and borates dropped my FC. My FC last night was 5.0 and it was also 5.0 this morning. After adding roughly 12 boxes of Borax and 3.5 gallons of acid, I just noticed that my FC is 0.5. These are the most recent test results and the only difference...

    Phosphate levels

Thanks Jason. If I called the city and asked for a water quality report, would it show if phospates are present? Thanks to Waterbear's sticky and your posts, adding the borates was a snap. I'm hoping the pH drift will be a little more tolerable.

    Phosphate levels

I decided to add borates to my pool today and took a water sample to the local pool store to verify the test results I got from my test kit at home. My water looks fine and I have no algae in the pool. I do have a couple of spots on the stacked rock beam that are not in contact with the pool...

Rust Spots on pea gravel concrete

We have the exact same problem and the sub that poured the deck is suppose to come by in the next few weeks and fix. A mild acid solution will remove the rust, but it will come back. We think some iron was somehow in the batch. Cleaning it works fine, but in a matter of weeks it will reapper...

    SWG and CYA level

Thanks waterbear. I'll head up to the pool store and get some CYA tomorrow. I know I should trust my own test vs. the pool store. Last month my own test was showing a CYA level of around 50, but the pool store said it was closer to 90.

    SWG and CYA level

I have a Goldline Aquarite system and the manual says the CYA should be between 60-80 with 80 being ideal. My current CYA level is 35 and other numbers are perfect. No algea and crystal clear water. I'm just curious if I should raise my CYA levels to what is in the Aqualine manual or keep it...

White stuff around edge of pool

Brian - I'm in the Austin area as well. Do you have a SWG? I have some rock similar to that around some flowerbeds and I believe it's a sandstone, which is extremely porous. I would assume that it's simply the stone absorbing the hard water and leaving a ring. Some of the stones that I have...

    Grey Plaster or white??

We have medium grey and love it the water color. Mottling is the marble-like differences in the final product. The grey plaster goes on a uniform color, but when the water is in and everything is done, it is not a uniform color. I will say that if our PB told us that the color differences...

    Converting chlorine to Salt water

I think the SWG will be all you need to do, but I know someone will be along to correct me if I am wrong. You will be adding acid on a regular basis with a SWG, I add quite a bit and hope that the acid demand will decrease after the first year. Even with the trouble of adding the acid, we love...

Just wanted to say hello and thanks for all the information. Our pool was finished in late June and I wish I would've found this site earlier. I've learned so much from lurking around other posts and can honestly say that I've gained much more information from a few hours of searching versus...
