Thoughts on Dolphin drive gear slippage

Just to continue the thread, I finally had the gear skipping issue after almost 4 years of use. It looked to me like the majority of the issue was the play in the drive wheel. So, taking a cue from caffeinatedsoap I modeled up a replacement shim/bearing thing but thicker to remove the play...

    Automating Heater Bypass - Intellicenter

Hmm... worth a shot. I assumed it was a control failure since the valve does turn the first time (and turn back), but it's easy to test. I even have a spare laying around from this adventure: https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/intellivalve-autopsy.270721/ I'll try and play around...

    Automating Heater Bypass - Intellicenter

I've recently noticed an issue with the bypass valve where it will switch to the Heater direction upon the initial heat demand, but then close once it's reached the set temp. That all seems fine. However, if the temp drops again and there's a new heat demand, the bypass valve doesn't switch...

Underground wire chase for pool robot

I like the channel idea, although I'm not totally sold on the channel through the middle of my lawn. I could route it to the existing drain box, which helps for aesthetic consistency. Then it'd just be up and over the coping. Frankly, I'm leaning towards a cheapish battery robot, though...

Underground wire chase for pool robot

@trivetman, Hmm... that opens up even more possibilities... I already have a drain at the near corner of the pool. I bet I could add another channel to the drain box and run the cord through there. That might be the easiest way yet...

Underground wire chase for pool robot

@ajw22, thanks, I'll look for that. @TinFoilHat, I do, but my pool has grass on all sides and the pool pad is farther away.

Underground wire chase for pool robot

@trivetman, yeah I think it'll be mostly permanent. I wasn't going to glue the u-bend on though, for just that reason. I'm thinking further that I might try to find some guide rollers to make that bend easier on the cord. Then I could even wind the cord back on the garage wall leaving the...

Underground wire chase for pool robot

I need to bounce this idea off some pool geniuses so they can tell me why this is terrible. I have a Pentair Prowler 920 (same as a Dolphin something) which is a few years old. I usually have the power brick attached to my garage wall under an eave and usually just leave the cord laying on the...

Martin Logan VS Sonace 8.1 sound systems

I got burned by Sonos in the past -- I don't like combining the speaker with the distribution/amplification. When technology moves on, you'll be left behind. I just ran speaker cable and have JBL Patio speakers, a Klipsh rock speaker, and some low profile boat speakers on the wall by the...

    Intellivalve Autopsy

Nice writeup @Ahultin! Looks like there could be a lucrative business rebuilding "broken" valves with proper sealant.

Standing Water inside Pentair Actuator - replace with Tork?

For what it's worth, my replaced motor is still working fine. I think mine leaked in from the top, but I can't really be sure. https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/intellivalve-autopsy.270721/#post-2386824

Replacement for the wall whale brush...

I did the same when my original wall whale brush started losing bristles. I now have it on a stainless brush. I also lost the adjustable stop clip thing over the years. At some point I need to try to model it and 3d print a new one.

    Intellivalve Autopsy

Huh, looks like I got lucky when I needed it. Also, for the record, I swapped the repaired valve back in a couple weeks ago and smeared silicone caulk in the seam and wire penetration of all my intellivalves. I want to make a datestamp here in case any of them fail in future. But, the...
