Adding CYA ahead of pool heater?

Will adding powdered CYA to the skimmer basket damage my downstream pool heater? It's a gas fired Hayward with a cupro nickel heat exchanger. If all is good then I plan on adding it via the sock method in the basket. I did a search but didn't see anything stating one way or the other...

Liquid Chlorine...what's the difference between these two

So perhaps a marketing thing then? Same product different labels. Either way thanks for clearing that up! Dave

Liquid Chlorine...what's the difference between these two

Can someone explain what the difference is in these to liquid chlorine solutions? One says the word shock and the other doesn't. Both have the same active ingredients. Or is the difference in the inert ingredients? Thank you, Dave

Opened pool last night, very low FC and CYA levels.

Marty, I added about 1/3 of the bottle of chlorine last night (estimated 40 oz). I finally was able to test FC & CC just now which are 2.0 FC and 0.4 CC. The pool has been covered up until now and we've had overcast skies. I didn't bother checking the CYA since I don't have any, nor obviously...

Opened pool last night, very low FC and CYA levels.

I opened my pool late yesterday and ran the pump since then. I just tested my water using the Taylor K-2006 test kit. Not sure if my test results show in my profile so I'll list them below... FC: 0.4 CC: 0.2 pH: 7.6 TA: 80 CH: 120...I refilled the pool yesterday about 20-30% and our tap water...

    Hi from Buffalo, NY

Sue, Great point on the time it takes to SLAM. I'd really like to get the water clear but with our weather I think I'm way too far past that point. The pool is usually closed a month ago. Thanks for letting me know the Pool log shows up! Dave

    Hi from Buffalo, NY

Pat, I added 4 lbs of baking soda this morning and just tested TA = 30 ppm (up from 10). I added another 4 lbs and will test a little later and recheck the pH before adding Borax. Unless you think I can start adding that now, a little at a time? Also, hopefully I didn't add too much baking...

    Hi from Buffalo, NY

Hi Sue, Would your suggestion still hold true with my water test listed in the reply above? I'm concerned I let the water chem go for too long...do you think it's too acidic and will do damage over the winter? Thank you! Dave

    Hi from Buffalo, NY

Hi Pat, Thanks for the links. And yes my time is short, I really should have closed the pool a few weeks ago. I just bought the Taylor K-2006 kit. I'll post the results below. I recorded them on the Pool Math app but not sure why they don't show when hovering over my avatar. FC: 0.4 ppm CC...

    Hi from Buffalo, NY

Hi everyone, I'm from Lancaster, NY a suburb near Buffalo. I have a 21' round above ground pool. I've been using Simple Blue, recommended by my local pool store. Finding this site has been bitter sweet....super happy I'm here but my pool has gone neglected from chemicals for a few weeks. To...
