Winter cover cleaner: Good Idea or the next PoolRx?

We let our mesh safety cover air out on the driveway, sweep it off once dry, then accordion fold it so it lays out easy for closing, and store it up high in the garage, away from any pests that could get at it in the mesh bag. 3 years and so far so good!

Reopening the Pool this weekend for the first time

Your TA appears to be lower now than it was before. I wouldn’t worry about TA too much, your pH will rise and you’ll then use muriatic acid to lower both pH and TA (enough to lower pH to 7.2). For now, I’d probably aerate a bit to get the pH up, you want your pH in the 7s. You can choose to...

Good luck! And share your results, maybe you need more help if it doesn’t work, but if something does work for you, maybe you help someone else!

    Testing a new pool

Just so you know, after mixing the CYA reagent with your pool water and mixing it well, you can perform the “dot” part of the test multiple times to practice. Just pour the mixture back into the bottle, give it a little shake, and do it again. You should read this if you haven’t yet: CYA -...

    Testing a new pool

Understood. My comment was more about the CYA measurement from Leslie’s. Definitely get practicing the CYA test and report what you get here.

Have you read: https://www.troublefreepool.com/blog/2019/01/18/stains-in-your-pool/ Some on the forums have success with filtering with polyfill.

    Testing a new pool

Start practicing your CYA test if you’re using pucks. I don’t trust that Leslie’s report given you just started the pump and your test shows a good pH compared to what Leslies has. We trust your testing with a good testing kit over a pool store’s testing.

    Draining Pool

By the way, I have the Superior 1/2 HP pump as well and recommend it. I’d get the bigger one for sure as you won’t get the advertised flow rate out of your pool and you’ll want as much as you can get.

    Draining Pool

It will, but as Marty said if your pool water is much cooler than your fill water, it will mostly stay on top. Filling from the skimmer just helps preserve that by minimizing disturbance.

New owner of in ground pool with pH/alk problem

I can’t second getting the speed stir enough! I just got the sample sizer as well which is a luxury, but not having to crouch down to see the meniscus is pretty nice! And I feel like it takes the subjectivity out of getting the sample size just right. Being a stickler for precision, I’ve tested...

New owner of in ground pool with pH/alk problem

It depends on how fast and to what level. Listen to @Texas Splash , he’s the expert. Don’t lower pH until it hits 8.0 and you might find that your pool likes 7.8 which is perfectly ok! Definitely get a good kit with a CYA test like TF-100 or Taylor K2006c. The “c” is important if ordering the...

I’m Craig, not sure we know Sneaux’s name yet! 😝 apologies if I’m wrong! 100% on the rest of what you said though! 😁

New owner of in ground pool with pH/alk problem

Oh, the poolmaster also doesn’t have a CYA test which is THE key to maintaining proper chlorine levels!

New owner of in ground pool with pH/alk problem

I’ve used the poolmaster to double check my Taylor kit early on in my testing experience, but ultimately you’re going to find the chlorine test is really limited, especially for how the TFP process works. Get the TF-100 instead as soon as you can and let the poolmaster go. I just yesterday...
