Muriatic Acid scares the bejeezes out of me.

I just pour it straight in from the bottle and then stir it around with the pool stick. Turn you head slightly if you need to breathe a bit. The warnings are valid, but MA isn't that dangerous as long as you treat it with some care and don't splash it everywhere.

    Hello from South Texas!

Welcome and congrats on your new home and pool! You are in the right spot. TFP has saved me hundreds of dollars in keeping my pool balanced and clean and the folks here are super helpful with basic technical issues too. If I could give a tip, when your pool maintenance person is around, ask...

New pump, need tips to remove the cover so I can clean the filter

Okay that sounds reasonable. I was afraid maybe something was still keeping pressure in there and if I tapped it the whole thing would blow in my face. Thank you!!

New pump, need tips to remove the cover so I can clean the filter

This is my setup for my new Jacuzzi JVSI65S variable speed pump. I need to clean leaves out of the filter, but cannot get the cap off. I released pressure from the main DE filter and kept the valve open until no air was coming out,, but the cap is still locked tight. I don't see any screws.The...

Do I have a leak? Poor circulation and return jet not working

Hmmmmm. This could be the case? Unfortunately I just dumped the 9 scoops in after I backwashed this morning. Backwash again and see if there's any improvement? It does seem like the circulation has improved, but the 2 return jets are still not doing anything.

Do I have a leak? Poor circulation and return jet not working

I do have skimmer socks that I clean out every other day at least. I add 9 scoops of DE after backwashing. I think that's generally correct for my filter size?

Do I have a leak? Poor circulation and return jet not working

There is a lot of dust in the hole where my water gauge is and I need to get a shop vac to clean that out. First time home owner, so I have a lot of things to buy.

Do I have a leak? Poor circulation and return jet not working

I do, it is currently reading about 16 psi and I just backwashed. My reading after the filters were completely cleaned out was about 13 psi though so 15 seems pretty standard for my pump. The pool guy told me if I approach 30psi I need to tear it down and clean it again.

Do I have a leak? Poor circulation and return jet not working

Backwashing, no problem, I will get right on it. Do you think I really need to tear the whole filter down again? There has not been any algae or major debris in my pool since it was last cleaned. The guy who came out and did it for me suggested I should only have to tear it down 2-3 times per...

Do I have a leak? Poor circulation and return jet not working

Just 3 weeks ago. Both backwash and fully cleaning the filter/adding fresh DE.

Do I have a leak? Poor circulation and return jet not working

So I finally have my water clear, but the past few days it seems like 2 of my return jets/nozzles, not sure what they're called, are not having any water flow. The ones on the pool floor seem to be working, and one on the side of the pool has good flow, but is bubbling a bit. The water doesn't...

    Kihei Maui

Yes! Although it's been nearly 10 years ago. Definitely find a breakfast diner and try the loco moco (unless you're vegetarian). I was hesitant because it sounds gross, but I loved it. I also highly recommend hiking the bamboo forest. You'll need clothes and shoes you can swim in because to get...

Need guidance on initial steps to get pool chemisty started

Shock usually has a stabilizer in it (CYA). If your CYA is low it's not harmful to use, but I have found that shock tends to raise my pH quite a bit which results in using more MA to get it back down. The Pool Math app is free. You can adjust the percentage of chlorine in it to tell you exactly...
