    Anyone know what this is?

The magnets are on the inside. No apparent wiring. While our water is hard in terms of Calcium (60 ppm out the tap) I don't believe we have a particulate or dissolved iron problem (which magnets wouldn't help with anyway). I'm inclined to agree with James that it is a gimmick. Thanks for...

    Anyone know what this is?

Yes. I stuck a kitchen knife blade inside and they are magnets. Five rows to be exact :)

    Anyone know what this is?

I removed my old (ancient) pump last weekend and replaced it with an intelliflo. One part of the plumbing removed was this inline gadget. Inside of it appear to be magnets (with some attached metal shavings). Is that what it is? Is it worth putting back in?

    Pump replacement recommendations

In the 10 years we've lived here I've seen the temperature go as low as 15F, and one year it did go low enough to freeze and crack the manifold on the pool heater. So yes, freeze protection of the pumping equipment is a requirement. I'm not aware that the intelliflo has freeze protection; I...

    Pump replacement recommendations

    Pump replacement recommendations

My pump started making periodic screeching noises about a week ago (or that's when I started noticing it) and yesterday it would start up and then after a few minutes make a loud buzzing noise and then shut off. Now when I power it on it just makes the buzzing noise suggesting capacitor but...

    CYA, CH down. What happened?

Update. Turned out to be a broken autofill valve. I'd noticed the water levels were high for a few months but thought it was due to rain. The water was leaking out at the top of the tile (between it and the apron). Replaced the autofill valve and everything is back to normal.
