    how many?

Leaving for a week. I've only used the BBB method since I got the pool, but I figure that I should get some trichlor as a patch... How many tablets should I use? And, Should I float it, or put it in the skimmer? 8K gallon above ground oval sand filter FC steady @ 4-6 TA 70 CYA 50 pH 7.2

    liquidators

I just read on another thread about chlorine liquidators..... Sounds like they make the BBB system more convenient. So my questions are: Do they work well? Are they expensive? What about brands? Better, Worse?? Thanks!

    I'm a believer!

Opened last week to a green swampy mess and about a million worms (fly larva).... Fast forward one week: We were swimming yesterday in almost CRYSTAL CLEAR water: All it took was time, patience( hard for me!) and BBB: My totals for the week: The TFT 100 kit $12 worth of bleach $3 worth of...

to floc or not to floc

Miranda... I am assuming that the sand filter will take out the dead algae... but I have very little experience/knowledge of the whole process. Maybe I am waiting for something that will never happen. Perhaps someone with more expertise can chime in: Do I need to change or add filter media???

to floc or not to floc

Thanks for the input.... I am holding off on the floc for now. I am letting the filter do it's job and still shocking. Chlorine is still dropping overnight. Could be because of my new issue... worms ( started a new post if you care to comment).

    Worms!!!!

I'm in the process of shocking a green pool and noticed a few small red wiggly worms squirming around. Well... I really stirred up the water today and found hungreds, maybe thousands in the water... A quick I-net search leads me to believe that they are fly larvae.... Should I be concerned...

to floc or not to floc

This is the start of my second season. So it's my first post-winter opening. The pool was a green swampy mess. I followed the pool school for green pools and now the green is gone, but the water is cloudy (looks like skim milk). I am assuming this is dead algae susspended in the water, right...

    winter cover

I need a winter cover (12 X 24 AGP). What are your thoughts on the solid vs micro-mesh. My understanding is that the mesh style allows rainwater and melting snow through to the pool. Is this a good thing??? I also noticed in the pool school winterizing article it says: "If using a winter cover...

    Vacation prep??

Just got my pool up a two weeks ago and the BBB method is going great. I'll be going away for 9 days.... What should I do about the pool? Is there a pre-vacation treatment that I should apply to reduce problems? Details: 12X24 AG (7700 gal) sand filter pH 7.5 TA 80 FC 3-4 CYA 40

    newbie blunder

Bama: Good tip... I'll check out some other stores. I agree about draining and refilling. It would be great to elimnate the problem altogether. I may wait until spring and just deal with the iron for another month.

    newbie blunder

Okay, I searched hi and low for Jacks (then went to the website) and discovered that it is not carried in my area. I ordered some online. In the mean time, I did use metal free, and it "sort of" worked. The green/yellow color is reduced, but it is not crystal clear. I'm hoping that Jack's will...

    newbie blunder

Yes, it's well water... I've never had a problem with iron in our home, but it sounds like you are on to something. How do I confirm that it is iron, and what are my treatment options???

    newbie blunder

Hi... brand new to this site, ablsolutely no pool experience, and I just filled my new pool yesterday! (12X24 AG) First mistake: Too much bleach. When I added the bleach, the pool turned green instantly and my chlorine test was off the chart.... As it turns out, I overestimated the total volume...
