I've noticed on pool math that when I add chilorine I also add salt. What is the effect of adding salt to my chlorine pool? Does salt collect over time like CYA? Or does the salt break down? Do I need to do anything about it?

I had a leak in my pool this winter and I lost basically all the CYA. It is now time to get the pool ready for the summer with a SLAM. I know that the lower my CYA is the less chlorine I have to use for my SLAM. Is there any problems with doing a SLAM with a very low CYA?
