The pump was not slightly too hot to touch - It was scorching hot. The return jets are flowing well. What is the proper voltage or does it vary? I have a pool guy coming today with a voltmeter to get a reading.

So I had my pool pump motor replaced yesterday (because the motor was burned up). Everything was running fine last night, but the motor was INCREDIBLY hot to the touch. I don't think this is normal. I immediately turned it off but am wondering what the possible causes are for this problem...

Truthfully, I didn't touch the motor. I did try to turn breaker off for a few minutes and then back on - nothing happens - silence only. I'm not comfortable testing for voltage really. My wife thinks that she smelled a "hot" smell last night in there.

There is no timer. The pump runs 24/7 and always has. I'm a new pool owner, but all that's in there is: pump and filter. That's why I thought it must be a motor gone bad.
