Final update (on this post):
Finally got rid of all the algae and have turned the swamp into an oasis! Still more work to do, but confident I can get anything I need to get done with this site. Donation incoming!
Transformation pic attached!
Final Update:
Passed a OCLT test after 3 days of 35FC SLAM. Water is perfectly clear. CYA is still very high and I have a bit of staining, but overall im extremely happy. Plan moving forward is to let the chlorine levels drop, perform a series of partial drains and refills over the next two...
Update:
I have been SLAMing (for real this time!) for over 24 hours now and at least 90% of the staining is gone and most of the bigger black dots are either gone or showing signs of degredation. I now just have to figure out what is actually a stain (I know there were some on rough parts of...
Update: Looks like at least some of it is black algae. Finally found some close to the surface and scraped it with a screwdriver. Very green once put on a paper towel. Frankly, I don't think that keeping the levels of chlorine at this CYA level is suatainable, so im going to try and do another...
I bought the house 3 months ago, so I dont have a full picture. I used the trichlor tabs that the previous owner used before. Do not believe that there is any copper in it. Have not used any algaecide.
Have stopped since and did a simultenous water exchange of 20k gallons to try to get the CYA...
interesting. I will try to get some, but most of it is in the deeper sections of the pool. It was not present before this algae bloom, so I am confused as to what it would be since it wont come off with any sort of brushing or vaccuming
You are 100% right. Using the app and I didnt see there was a slider under the SLAM reccomendation that changed. it. Should be at FC35. Not sure if that is sustainable for any period of time...that is about 40$ a night at local chlorine prices. Might be time to start draining again
I should clarify as this is an older thread. I have been SLAMing for 7 days now. Major improvements except for the the bottom of the pool (and a few on the sides). I have virgorously scrubbed with a wire brush for several days in a row. Wondering if I need to either drain to lower CYA or raise...
