I have not used the product/method that you listed; however, have heard of that concept. Looking at Amazon, lots of happy customers who have had success using this to deter wasps. Interesting concept...may have to consider myself 🤔 On the contrary, we have had good luck using this Wasp Trap...

Follow-up note on the white gasket used in the Hayward. After some research, it appears it might be some sort of ceramic fiber compound. The white part inside of the heater might be the same material that is treated with a product called rigidizer which essentially makes the product's integrity...
