    Metals in Water

Last season we battled metal staining in our pool. This year it’s the same thing. Vitamin C works to lift the stain and then I add sequestrant but a week later the staining starts to reoccur. I know we have high levels of phosphates from adding multiple bottles of sequestrants. The pool store...

    Main Drain/Skimmer question

After I see air coming out of the main drain and the skimmer, should I turn the valve off at the pad?

    Metals and Closing

Thanks for the advice! We have a mesh cover so we usually drain to just below the skimmer box and it refills with rain and snow over winter.

    Metals and Closing

We’ve struggled this summer with metals in our pool. We had to add water from our well until we found a leak. But now we have metal staining on our white fiberglass pool. I’ve used Ascorbic acid to clean it up and then Pro Team metal magic. It still reoccurs every few weeks and then I repeat the...

    Main Drain/Skimmer question

They are connected together under ground. So when blowing out the lines do I cap the skimmer first and then what do I do with the only valve?

    Main Drain/Skimmer question

We’ve always had help closing our pool but this year I am feeling fairly confident in doing it ourselves. My one area of concern is the main drain/skimmer. We have one main drain and one skimmer and they are plumbed together so I only have one shut off valve. What steps should I follow to make...

    DE Mistake!

I made a stupid mistake while backwashing and ended up with some DE on the bottom of the pool. Of course it’s the night before my daughters birthday pool party. 🤦‍♀️😩. Now the water is slightly cloudy. I’m running the automatic vacuum because it’s dark here now and I plan on manually vacuuming...

    What to do before closing?!?!

I have no idea how the copper got in there. It was pool store test so maybe not accurate? I have used Ascorbic acid for the iron and it does remove the stains but of course they return later. Is there a safe sequestering agent for iron? After joining this group I use a Taylor Test kit to test my...

    What to do before closing?!?!

I’ll try to keep my pool season story brief but some back story is needed. We had some copper in our pool so the pool store gave us metal out which worked great for the copper but put our phosphates at 2,500. About mid summer we had a leak and until we got it fixed we had to add water from our...

    Leak Detection…still searching

IT WAS THE POOL LIGHT!!! Thank you for suggesting that. After weeks of dye, bucket tests, and measuring we have FINALLY stopped losing water. We never use the light. It’s an old pool with one light. So I put some epoxy around it and since have no water loss. What a relief!!!

    Leak Detection…still searching

Thank you! I did leave them open when I did the bucket test. I didn’t even think about plugging them. The main drain and skimmer are plumbed to one valve, but I could isolate the returns easily with winter plugs. Great idea.

    Leak Detection…still searching

I have no stopped adding water only because our summer is coming to an end and I am trying to enjoy the last few weeks with the kiddos! After they go back to school I may try this to see if it stops at the light. We only have 1 light.

    Leak Detection…still searching

I have a call in to a local pool company to come pressure test the lines but I’m about at my whits end trying to find a leak! We have a 17 year old fiberglass pool. We have done the bucket test. The bucket loses about 1/4” a day and our pool is losing 3/4” to 1” a day. So I’m fairly confident we...
