    Skunk in pool

To remove any kind of bad smell from anything - oil. Not practical in your case, but keep it in mind for the future. Sometimes you do something with your hands and no matter how long you wash it with soap, the smell is still there (like spilled fuel on hand). In this case, just clean hands with...

want to SLAM this weekend = HELP

You forgot one thing that TFP teaches you: Check and adjust the PH to between 7.2 and 7.5. The PH test isn't reliable during SLAMing so make sure to take care of this before you start. So keep in mind that your readings are off. Do not add too too much Muriatic Acid

want to SLAM this weekend = HELP

The pool looks really clean and clear. Since you CC is 0, then I assume don't have algae. Re-test. Then raise your FC (it is too close to critical level, you need to target 7 and minimum 5 based on your CYA), after lower your PH (I would say down to 7.2 based on your TA and Calcium and assuming...

    Hello from Maryland!

Ah, Maryland! The birthplace of my Taylor K-2006 :-) Once you fix your algae bloom and get back to clear water, do not allow for your FC to drop below 1.0. Even better, sock the pool if it drops to 2.0. One time, FC in my indoor pool dropped below 0.5 (by-law minimum for unstabilized pools)...

Pump presure increased after backwash on Hayward sand filter

I have a small chlorine feeder, but my pool is indoor, so it runs about 2.5 hours at night to rise FC to 2.5-3 from 1-1.5. With an outdoor pool the chlorine pump should be able to keep up with the demand during the day. I remember when I took care of an outdoor pool couple years back, there was...

By now you should have it fairly clean and clear! How does the deep end look like?

Awesome! I would actually swim in this pool even though it is still a bit cloudy! The water does look clean!

Newbie - Chlorine, Algae, and Pressure Issues

After reading this thread I realized that I may have a faulty gauge as well. I noticed it stuck on 20 for a week and doesn't raise. Going now to check if it drops to 0 when I shut down the pump!

    TA Testing Variations

When they state on the kit instructions "untill the sample will turn red", they mean any shade of red color. As soon as you notice the change, that is your TA result. Sometimes I add couple more drops just to be sure. My sample turns just a little bit pinkish. My Calcium Hardness test is even...

Been trying to get clear water for a month!

That's right. Pool store testing was mostly wrong in many threads that I have read. Green color almost guarantees you still have algae. You need to test yourself and then SLAM the pool as per TFP. What are the test results from the pool store? Can you post photos of the pool?

Slamming for 14 days looking for some advice

Glad you cleared it. I don't have DE, but I use "clarifier" instead. It helps to glue together all the fine particles in the water, so that the sand filter is collecting it. I add small amounts weekly. Also, do not backwash too often (the working gauge is a must) and vacuum to waste instead of...

    Circulation pump noise

Sounds like something obstructing inside your pipes. When I shut the main drain and the second skimmer to vacuum the pool, my pump sounds more noisy like it is struggling, but since it is always the case, I assume it is normal pump operation when there is less water flow. It is strange that you...
