    Texas: “winterizing” Water feature Return

Good Morning, Last year during the TX freeze I had disassembled/drained the equipment and blew out my waterfall features with a shop vac. Normally in the winter I leave the four feature returns (right side of picture) all open when freeze protect is running. There are two waterfall features...

Natural stone coping replacement from freeze

Hi all, so far looks like minor cosmetic damage from the weather this past week. Thin line of plaster around the top edges appears to be gone (Not sure if this can be patched or is a much bigger problem). It also appears so expanding ice got under the natural stone coping, and i have two stones...

How are my fellow Texans doing this morning lol

Yes, fingers crossed. It'll certainly be nice to get a full night's sleep tonight. I was telling my wife as we were standing over our frozen ice pool that with any luck, in about 3 months or so, we'll be sitting here in the blazing Texas sun while the kids swim and say "you remember when his was...

How are my fellow Texans doing this morning lol

Well this Texan pulled the trigger and shut things down. I drained the pump and filter and covered things up. Added a bottle half filled with antifreeze in to the skimmer and surrounded it by some pool noodles. Hopefully that works. Got fairly lucky too- decided to see if my $50 Rigid vac would...

How are my fellow Texans doing this morning lol

I’m not far from you, im on the north end of FW. Last night did a number on me, pretty thick ice all around, waterfalls freezing etc. With tonight forecasted to be same/worse, I don’t think I can make it. Waiting for daybreak to drain I think. I’m just so worried about losing pipes afterwards.

How are my fellow Texans doing this morning lol

JJ, you’ve been like my northern star through this, lol. Every time I want to wave the white flag I see you’re still in it and I feel just a little bit better. I just posted another thread though asking some final questions about draining. I think it’s time, especially with the rolling blackouts...

Last few questions before draining equipment

Hi all. Been reading these forums like crazy past few days. Thanks for helping keep me relatively sane to this point. I’ve been trying to ride this out with my pump running but the 8 degree temps last night that are not expected to break until Tuesday afternoon, and actually get worse tomorrow...

Drain Equipment- then what for pipes?

That makes a ton of sense, thank you. Appreciate this forum so much and how kind everyone is. Cant wait to get back to the fun stuff of water balance, etc while enjoying a cold one pool side. Thanks again.

Drain Equipment- then what for pipes?

Good call. I like to think I would have thought to turn the breaker off but I hadn't;t thought of it yet, and in the moment, could have easily overlooked. The antifreeze in a soda bottle makes a ton of sense too, thank you. Might prep that now just in case.

Drain Equipment- then what for pipes?

Im waiting on my pool store to open, but HD not carrying the gizmos in store. If I have to go this pool noodle route, do I just wedge it horizontally in the skimmer or does it need to be pushed in to one of the suction ports?
