Proper procedure for removing/filling in a fiberglass pool

I think the extra $3000-$4000 has more to do with the cost of extra dirt than with the cost of disposing of the concrete. Dirt is expensive because you have to pay someone to go get it and they may have to make several trips to get enough of it. I'm getting a good price on the pool removal...

Proper procedure for removing/filling in a fiberglass pool

I will have to disclose the removal of the pool when selling the home, even if I remove all of the concrete. We will get the electricity/wires and plumbing at the equipment end removed, but we cannot remove pipes and wires that might be underneath all of the beautiful landscaping around my...

Proper procedure for removing/filling in a fiberglass pool

The contractor who wants to put a small portion of the concrete decking into the hole said that he was going to break up the concrete into small pieces and mix it in with the dirt. I wonder if that would create voids for future sink holes? It is going to cost $3000-$4000 more if I don't use...

Proper procedure for removing/filling in a fiberglass pool

I don't understand why burying a small portion of the concrete deck is a problem. The dirt that we will be getting from our neighbor's yard will be full of rock so what is the difference between concrete and rock? I can understand why trash would be a problem so I definitely won't be doing that.

Proper procedure for removing/filling in a fiberglass pool

We have been getting estimates to remove/fill in our 21-year-old fiberglass pool. It looks like the pool wasn't backfilled correctly 21-years ago and that is why we keep experiencing leaks and cracks in the coping and deck. People on here probably think we are nuts for wanting to remove a pool...

FC/CYA ratio when using polyquat at closing

Thanks for clarifying this. Two years ago when I added the polyquat at 1/2 SLAM (20% of CYA), it lowered my FC from 8 ppms to 4 ppms. 4 ppms is only 1 ppms above the minimum FC for a CYA of 40. If you are adding the polyquat when the water temperature isn’t quite below 60 yet, would it be...

FC/CYA ratio when using polyquat at closing

The algaecide directions on “pool school” say to add it at 1/2 slam level so the FC/CYA is 20%. If it is supposed to be added at halfway between normal FC and SLAM level, someone might want to change this on pool school so the directions are more clear because halfway between normal FC and full...

FC/CYA ratio when using polyquat at closing

I have a few questions about the optimal FC/CYA ratio when adding polyquat at closing. It says on here to add it at 1/2 SLAM level so FC/CYA ratio is 20%. I did that the last time that I used Polyquat with a CYA of 40 and the polyquat lowered the FC from 8 ppms to 4 ppms so FC was barely above...

Help! 12.5% liquid chlorine spill in garage

If I put the cal hypo shock in a large plastic box with a lid, could I keep it in the garage? If I kept the muriatic acid in a plastic container with a lid in the garage, could I keep it in the garage as well? I don't have any place to store chemicals outside where they will stay dry. I've...

Help! 12.5% liquid chlorine spill in garage

I don't have a plastic shed or any place outside to put the acid where it will be out of the rain. I also don't have a shady place to store it either. If I bought a large plastic storage container with a lid, could I store the muriatic acid in that? I would put the storage container next to...

Help! 12.5% liquid chlorine spill in garage

I'll bring the acid inside then. Should I bring the cal hypo shock or any of the other pool chemicals inside too? The bleach smell is rather strong and its going to take awhile to dry since we poured a lot of water over the bleach that was spilled to dilute it. This whole situation makes me...

Help! 12.5% liquid chlorine spill in garage

What is the best way to deal with a liquid chlorine spill in our garage? A gallon of 12.5% chlorine rolled out of the trunk when we opened the door and a bunch of liquid chlorine spilled out on the floor. We diluted it by pouring water over it but the bleach smell remains. There is muriatic...

Hacks for keeping a chlorine floater from getting stuck somewhere while using one during vacation

I've got a heavy iron pool chair next to the deep end which is located in the same side of the pool as the return. I thought about tying the floater to that heavy chair but I worry that it could come untied during a thunderstorm and the floater will get stuck in the skimmer mouth.

Hacks for keeping a chlorine floater from getting stuck somewhere while using one during vacation

Are you suggesting that I put this rock on the deck next to the edge of the pool? When the pump turns off for the evening, will the floater gravitate towards the wall and park itself there? I don't want the floater to park itself in one place over night when the pump isn't running because I...

Hacks for keeping a chlorine floater from getting stuck somewhere while using one during vacation

Does anyone have any hacks for keeping a round floater full of Trichlor tablets from parking itself in the skimmer mouth, along the steps in the shallow end, in a corner, or next to the ladder? My pool only has one skimmer that is located in the deep end on the opposite side of the deep end...
