The pipe is an older aluminum pipe that my father-in-law had as a spare I believe.

A: I used 5/16 stainless steel rod that I can hammer out, and replace if it rusts out. I used 2 bars (approx 5 inches in length) to support each end of the pipe.

A: Thank you!! I think it will last a long time, as long as I keep water/UV protective finish on it. I plan to refinish it in 6 months if the finish starts to wear away. If not, I will do it annually. I can replace the bearing/bushing, hand crank, or other components as needed. Thanks Newdude...
