    Unusually Low Back Pressure

From what I can tell, all of the appropriate valves are open and the water is about 2/3 the way up the skimmer, which is where I normally try to keep it. I took apart the filter, cleaned it, put it back together and recharged it with DE powder and still no change. There's barely any back...

    Unusually Low Back Pressure

I recently took apart my DE Filter to wash it out. After I put it back together, the back pressure was 10psi, which is about what it normally is after cleaning it, so I was happy. Recently, however, the back pressure has dropped. It's currently 2 psi. I've also noticed that the water is not...

Having a hard time maintaining chlorine & stabilizer levels

How do I know how much bleach to put in?

Having a hard time maintaining chlorine & stabilizer levels

Earlier in the year I was easily able to maintain appropriate chlorine levels by setting my SWG to about 25% and running my 2 speed pump on high about 40% of the time. Lately, and what seems to be all of a sudden, I've had to make some major adjustments and I'm still trying to find the right...

    CYA Test Clarification

Here are my latest levels from this morning's test: FC: 21.5 CC: 0 TC: 21.5 pH: 7.8 TA: 140 CH: 100 CYA: 80 My chlorine levels were previously high, so I turned off the SWG. After about 2 weeks I got FC/TC down to 4.5, so I turned it back on. In one week, it shot up to 21.5, which is higher...

    High FC & TA

Yes, it makes sense. Thanks! It's just that the TA and pH seemed fairly stable for the last few days. Maybe I need to be more patient or maybe I need to add another method of aeration.

    High FC & TA

A week has gone by since I originally tried to adjust my CYA and TA levels and I've had some success, but I'm not there yet. Here are my current levels: FC: 11 CC: 0 TC: 11 pH: 7.2 TA: 150 CYA: 60 So my chlorine is still high. I have had the SWG off for about 4 or 5 days and it's come down...

    filter backwashing frequency

That's awesome if you're able to keep the back pressure that low for extended periods of time. How old is the filter? Are you sure you don't have any holes in any of the grids? You'd probably know if you did since it sounds like you clean often. You probably would have seen them or you probably...

    High FC & TA

By the way, my TA reading of 260 was the point at which the sample turned yellow. So I'm hoping I interpreted the instructions correctly since it said such results can occur with high chlorine levels but are still valid.

    High FC & TA

176oz (weight) as recommended by the online calculator. Solid, not liquid. It sat in the skimmer basket for a bit but seemed to dissolve pretty quickly. I'll give it another look. I don't have the eyeball returns. Perhaps I should stop by the pool store and pick up a pair. That might be part...

    High FC & TA

I'm quite new to this, so please bear with me. I just received my TFT100 kit last week and here are the test results from this weekend. FC: 11.5 CC: 0 TC: 11.5 pH: 6.8 TA: 260 CH:190 CYA: 55 The first test I ran was for CYA, which originally read somewhere between 0 and 20. I added stabilizer...

    CYA Test Clarification

Yes, but I didn't notice instructions on the bottle, however, they are on the inside lid of the container holding the kit. I have not seen that. Thank you. So I performed the first CYA test this morning. The black dot did not disappear until the tube was full. So does that essentially mean I...

    CYA Test Clarification

I received my TFT Test kit today. Super fast service! I only just ordered it the day before yesterday! Anyway, I need some clarification on the CYA testing instructions. It says to "Fill the Red-capped CYA mixing bottle to the bottom line with the pool water. Now, fill the bottle to the top...

    Water Balance for SWGs

My saltwater system will not even chlorinate if the salt level is too high (I think above 4000 PPM). I'm sure the manufacturer designed the system that way for a reason. And I'd think it's not because the cell can't chlorinate at that high a level, but probably because they know the damage high...

    Vacuuming to Waste

One other question - is vacuuming on high on my 2 speed 1.5/.5 HP pump okay? I'm sure it would generate a lot more suction, but then I lose a lot more water a lot more quickly.
