Adding Hayward Skimmer. Keep 2nd Intake?

Hey folks! Making a few improvements to get the pool ready for the season, and I have a question regarding my pool suction intake. I'm replacing the over-the-side skimmer with a wide-mouth Hayward skimmer, and I am planning on using skimmer socks to catch pollen & other fines. I upgraded my...

How late in the season do you run you pool?

Fortunately, it doesn't cost much to run the little heat pump on our 5K gallon pool. We do have some deciduous trees in the area, but I don't think we will see much leaf drop. The surrounding cedars drop needles all year - don't think that will change much in winter.

How late in the season do you run you pool?

I am located in central VA, where the early October temps range from mid 50s - mid 70s, and we are still enjoying the pool. Wondering how late in the season others (presumably with heated pools) keep using theirs. I'm sure there is some point at which my little heat pump can't keep up, but...

Sand Filter or Cartridge Filter for Above Ground Pool?

Thanks for sharing this! I have upgraded to Sch 40 PVC suction lines, but I have to throttle one of the suction lines way back in order for the skimmer to work at all - basically just need more flow! My current thinking is to go with a 2 speed pump in the 3/4 - 1 HP range) and switch to a...

Sand Filter or Cartridge Filter for Above Ground Pool?

Thanks for the link! As usual, I posted before I spent much time looking at the massive amount of info on this site!! I do have the Intex SWCG, and I'm pleased with it's performance. The "stock" filter and pump are just too anemic for me.

Sand Filter or Cartridge Filter for Above Ground Pool?

I have a 4700 gallon Intex pool, with the included small (0.18 hp) pump and 10" sand filter. The system is adequate, but barely. I can only run the vacuum on "recirculate", and must backwash a couple times a week. The difference between "clean sand filter, full flow" and "too low flow for heat...

    18' x 9' newbie install questions

I have the exact same pool (just posted pictures of my deck and pool install today). I had to guestimate the location of the foundation blocks (I used 18" x 18" x 2" blocks from Lowes). The supports are close to the edge of the foundation blocks at one end - should have shifted the blocks 6"...

    Pool cover

Hey, if it get's too hot, the Raypak heat pump we just installed has a "cool" function (basically, just a reversing valve in the unit like a home heat pump, lets it cool or heat). We haven't needed that function yet - still definitely in "heat" mode, but it's an option for the hot, mucky days of...
