That's what I'm thinking. I'm going to call them this morning. I want to be able to order ASAP so things can keep moving along.
Looks like this rain is going to be here all day. Hopefully it doesn't hold things up for tomorrow by being too muddy. I was hoping we'd have gunite by Thursday.

I'm thrilled for you that they were able to match your existing pavers! Now it's all going to look seamless. That's fantastic!
It will all be finished before you know it and the mud will be replaced by beauty.

It looks like they did a really professional job, Denise! I hope you can track down your tile samples soon so you can get moving on that decision. It's nice to avoid stalls in the momentum if you can help it. Everything is looking great! I can't wait to see it all come together with the gunite.
 
Called Lightstreams to see about the tile... The guy wrote down my address wrong. When I called, he asked for my number and wrote that down wrong. It took a couple times to get it straightened out...

Lol! I'm wondering if I should be concerned when I give him my order...:hammer::jocolor::laughblue::suspect::suspect:
 
As another rectangular pool owner, part of the reason you don't see more is cost. Most pool builders price a pool using perimeter measurement as one of the factors. That makes a pool with curved sides cost less. Squares and rectangles are more expensive than free form curves. At least that's true in the world of gunite/shotcrete pools.

I did not know that, Chief! My PB has told me several times that he has given me the "friends and family" discount. I have nothing to compare it to, but what I'm paying seems reasonable to me.

Since you were trying to maximize your pool size and up against some lot/easement restrictions a rectangle was the obvious choice. If someone is trying to maximize the pool surface area vs cost they usually end up with more rounded shapes. Simple geometry, a circle is the shape with the largest area vs perimeter. Most pool builders use perimeter, area, and depth as factors in price calculations. Of course there are so many other factors that these may quickly be outweighed by other factors like complexity of design, cost of finishes, equipment, plumbing requirements, etc.

Makes perfect sense! I have come to love my rectangle pool! All of this feels surreal still. I'm thinking it will take a full swim season for the shock to wear off.

Congrats on the pool build and it's looking really good so far! I'm a sucker for geometric/rectangular pools and didn't know those actually cost more. I figured curved/free form pools were more difficult to make vs. right angles.

thank you! We are rain delayed today. Possibly tomorrow, too. Then I have to order tile which will take about 4 weeks to receive, so that probably means more delay. I'm hoping we are done and filled by mid April so the water can warm up by May.

Any one of the corner benches, the spa, the bubbler shelf, under the pergola, next to the firepit.... The options will be fabulous and plentiful!

The step at the bottom of the pool is taller than I wanted but he assured me that it would not be an issue due to the buoyancy of the water lifting you up as you step. The other steps are somewhere between 6-8". He was an older gentleman and said his wife is my height, and that he completely understood and agreed with the need for low step height. With all of his insightful and really thoughtful suggestions I felt safe in trusting his judgement. So, yes, as of now I would say he nailed it. I'll only know for sure once we are using them.

Lots of space in the spa as well!!
