Hayward Heater question

Original Heater from when pool was built in 2008. We have replaced the Display board twice (last time just a month ago). The heater works fine if I turn off BO and turn it on manually. A guy who was out to look at replacing our pool light checked the wire from the heater to the Aqualogic board an said either it need to be replaced or possibly the ignitor board needed to be replaced. Although he was pretty much a try this, if that doesn't work try the next thing guy rather than having anyway to test to determine the problem. Wasn't really up for him to hobby. Especially since he wanted me to buy the parts and his reliability to show up is a bit iffy.

I talked to a independently owned pool store and he said with a 17 year old heater, he would consider it too fragile to open and try and start fixing things, to just use it manually. Especially since we have it all behind a fence, I would much prefer to be able to use the remote to turn on the spa and heater, but doing that is preferable to spending 6k or more to replace and replumb for a new heater. There are independent pool repair people with good reviews in my area, but just wanted to take the pulse of this forum on risk versus reward. This comment about causing more harm really spooked my husband. The display board was easy for us to do ourselves. The ignitor looks like such a web of wires, he is not willing to venture there. Given it works out of BO, is the ignitor board the next most likely thing? If I have someone come out, can they test to verify the problem or is it trial and error? My remote and the logic board work for everything else except turning on the heater. Thoughts?

Nope.

If it works out of bO then it is unlikely to be the igniter.

Your problem is likely in the wire between the heater and your automation system or the heater relay in your automation panel is bad. Both can be tested by someone who knows how to use a multimeter.

What automation panel do you have?

Do you have a multimeter and know how to check continuity or voltages?

I do not own one, but I think my neighbor may have one. My dear dad had me building Heath-kits to keep me out of trouble during the summer, so if I know what to test, yes, I can test.
Show us pictures of where the control wire connects from the heater connects to the Aqualogic and to the heater.

Will have to go out later when it quits raining and take a picture of the inside of the control panel , thought I had one, but couldn't locate it. However, it looks like the one uploaded. If there is something else or a specific area of which you need a picture let me know. Thanks.
