Just opened the pool and it looks like I have a broken multivalve union on the sand filter for the second year in a row. The upper black fitting in this picture is dripping.

Any ideas of what I’m doing wrong when closing the pool? I blow everything (or so I thought) out with a cyclone. I don’t think I’ve looked up what pentair says to do about closing and just assumed if I drain the water out it’d be ok.

I take my equipment inside so i have it all apart anyway, but I would take it apart and blow the pad, and each return and suction legs seperately, as well as remove and empty any legs that come apart either way.

Did you leave the filter drain plug out for the winter ?

Do you think the sand filter was that full with water or that it was trapped coming out of the multi port ?

I drained the filter and leave the drain cap loose so it can drip if needed. It’s 600lbs so can’t be moved…easily, or if it’s going to do this every year I’ll transform it into a plantar box for berries…😡 and get a cartridge filter.

Ok so I'd be looking into how the water got trapped right there because the filter wasn't half full.

Oh yeah. Err. No. Lol. But you can pop all the unions and dump the pipes, then blow just the filter and heater. And then each individual leg to the pool before reassembling it all.

I know the pool companies never care, but the equipment are restrictions when loss of air flow is your enemy. That spot should have gravity drained after the fact into and then out the bottom of the filter, but for whatever reason it didn't 2 years in a row. IMO that warrants a full breakdown next year.

probably right. Ugh. I’m wondering if there’s some kind of stress on the pipes as well. Removing the multiport valve that would prevent any winter stress. Maybe even removing it after I’ve blown the system out would let me know if water is still in there somehow.

I look down all my pieces like a pirate. Yup. She's empty. Arrrrr. Land HO !!!

Why even blow it if it's coming apart anyway ? Plus you then get access to each leg to the pool.
