What did you do to your pool today?

While Skippy and I snuck out of town overnight, our son zipped in from Atlanta and cut back some of the trees still sitting on our cover. He was able to open the cover about a foot & send me a pic of clear water! Nine months closed and yet still clear. That's a win!!

Now if only The Masters would be over so the tree cutters can come remove these beasts!

Its Pollen season alright.
Gave my new spa cover a good scrub and applied some protectant.
Here’s how she looks today…

I scrubbed the columns on my carport in preparation to paint them and before I could begin painting they were already coated again!

When you work second shift you have to adapt if you want pool time! My daily routine is to get home at approximately 7:30pm and change clothes. Brush all dirt/debris/worms off the tanning ledge, shelves and stairs. Then I go around sides and brush wall and wrap around ledge and brush all dirt/debris out to middle of pool where my Aiper S1 Pro can pick it up. Here is the Aiper doing its nightly routine tonight. If pool were warmer, I would enjoy getting in and vacuuming my hand with my hand-held vac but at 48dg it is not a pleasant experience.

Added some more CYA. Cleaned the filter and inspected the salt cell. There was a little bit of scaling that a bbq skewer and a hose took care of. Recalibrated the pH probe. CSI is still negative but still getting some scale. Might be time for some borates in the pool.

Of course, the weather gods dumped 3" of water on top of the new 3" I put in a few days ago...Now I have to drain.

After rebuilding the PVC (Post #5,796) and starting up the system, the pad was covered in water after about 4 hours of running. Granted, every piece of equipment was sweating because of the cold water. Even with all of that, I assumed there was no way I had that much water just from condensation, so I pressure tested from filter input to returns (Suction side was not leaking LOL).

Held 1psi for 30 minutes...so I'll be, it was condensation.

Going to only run the pump when I need to add chlorine and for the FREEZE next week.

Rinsed out the filter from the SeaKlear treatment (definitely white milky stuff ran out) and ran the M500 a few times to clean out all that stuff. Pool is nice and sparkly again, and potentially less phosphates. Not that I really care about that but I already had the stuff so might as well use it.

Also ordered 100lbs of Doheny stabilizer. Should last me a couple of years.

With 2 full seasons on a farm, and oodles of organics blowing in, I had no idea if I had 150 or 15,000. So I went and got tested last year. While I trust them as much as flatulence during a stomach bug, I figured they get the # of digits right. If they said 4 digits I'd get my own Taylor kit and see for real. I brought 2 samples, mine and my 'neighbors' (wink wink) and both came back in the low 3 digits so I won't worry about it for several more years.

Took another confident step and pulled some stuff apart for the first time. Had a Jandy check valve that had some pine needles stuck in it so pulled that off and got it all cleaned up. Pulled the salt cell and looked for any scaling but didn’t see any so said some nice things to it and put it back together. Cleaned off the salinity and temp sensors while I was in there. Played an hour of “hey dad watch this” with my daughter jumping into the pool and will likely repeat that last part today — going to be a hot one in ATL

I didn't do anything to the pool today. The air temperature is 84F today. It is so tempting to pull the cover, vacuum the pool and fire up the heater. But the forecast for Tuesday is a high of 57F, low of 43F, and 60% chance of rain. That's what it does every spring here in NC. It gives you a great weather day here and there in the spring to tempt you to open the pool. I'm not falling for it.
