Issue with salt meter readings?

I purchased a 7 in 1 meter for reading pH, temp, salt, etc that looks pretty identical to the c-600 TF kits sells. Only problem is that I’m consistently getting readings in the 6000 to 7000 ppm range for salt. I’m in the process of SLAMing the pool and after that will be installing a new salt cell so will see what those readings are. I guess I could also pick up a salt test kit? I have strips, they are useless.

There is no way my salt level could be that high. I’ve never seen a reading off my old salt cell higher than 3200 and I certainly didn’t go pour in I a bunch of bags.

Any advice?

Digital salt level meters do not directly measure salt content. They measure the electrical conductivity of the water and can only correlate that to the amount of salt by making assumptions about the rest of the water's dissolved chemistry. If you just want just a salt test get a Taylor K-1766 kit.

Hmm, thanks. I like it for the pH reading too. Right now the pool is a mess given it's being SLAMed so I'll reserve judgement until all the chemistry is correct.

I think a product like this is trying to offer to many capabilities and does not do any of them very well. If you want a pH meter, purchase a pH meter. If you want a salt meter, purchase a salt meter. The savings is that you obtain accurate test results and do not need to purchase more than the required chemicals.
that is why the recommendation is for the K1766 salt test kit. It does one thing very well.
