Just had new pool heater installed so this will be my first season with it. It is a Hayward Model #H250FDP. I understand that having a heater I now have to be concerned with CH levels whereas before I paid it no mind....CH was 400 at time of Closing so I should be good with that correct?

Another question has to do with flow. Minimum flow for this model of heater is 25GPM. I don't have a flow meter so what is the minimum rpm speed needed to achieve this? I'm going to use a different timer schedule this season but want to make sure to don't fall below the minimum flow required for the heater.

Thank you,
Dan

Any CH over 100 is fine for a gas heater. Your 400 is fine.

2400 RPM will be more than enough. 2000 RPM is probably ok.

Your signature says you have a 1.65 HP pump so you need more RPMs then you will hear folks with 3 HP pumps discuss.

With clean filters see where the flow error comes on for low flow then add 200 rpm and you should be good. As long as you maintain the 25% increase in psi at the filter for backwashing the sweet spot will hold.

Heaters do not have a flow switch. They have a pressure switch which can be fooled by high pressure and low flow through the heater.

This recommendation works fine for SWGs but I like to keep much more than minimum flow through an expensive gas heater.
