Anyone have a fiberglass spa/hot tub?

We are just starting the process of building a pool, and we want a pool with a deep end and a spa. We were originally looking at a fiberglass combo pool with spa. However, the more I read horror stories of cracks or coating failures, the more I lean toward a vinyl liner pool. We had a vinyl pool in our last house, so we know what to expect with those. The pool builder recommended a fiberglass spa that spills over into the vinyl pool. Anyone have an insight on adding a fiberglass spa? We did like the design, but just wanted to make sure these hold up over time. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to TFP.

There are members who do and they work fine if properly installed. It may take a while as folks return here for the start of their pool season.

The challenge seems to be how the spa to pool spillover is implemented. That sets the maximum spa water level, lets the spa water be refreshed with pool water, keeps the water chemistry the same between the two, and shares the equipment.

You also need to be sure the spa will be able to be heated and used separately from the pool with the proper valve and plumbing setup. A member a short while back had a set back when they were unable to use the spa unless it interfered with the pool rendering it useless in the winter.

Do you think separate plumbing without the spillover would be better?

Only if you intend to close the pool in the winter while keeping the spa open.

It will cost you twice the equipment to maintain two independent bodies of water.

You will need a much larger equipment pad.
