Would high PH cause sudden algae/combined chlorine?

I have 1 echo dot and it drives me crazy at times, I can’t imagine an army of them 😂
Do yourself and your wallet a favor (especially if you have kids) & immediately turn off the ability to purchase anything via voice & all the amazon shopping notifications in the alexa app. So many are on by default.
The recommendations & review notifications we’re driving me bonkers until I found the off switch. Even though I had voice purchases off it would still ask me if I wanted to add things to my cart. Being as its near Christmas some of the notifications can also inadvertently let the cat out of the bag about purchased gifts.

Lol yes, it definitely takes a few weeks to get all of the schedules/routines/notifications setup correctly.

Mine is by my hot tub and we would be relaxing & trying to play music then all of a sudden “based on your purchase of so & so on xxx date we found a deal on such & such would you like me to add it to your cart?” 😳 My husband is like “how much stuff have you bought?” 🫢

Yeah, you gotta be careful with the parental controls and subscriptions/purchase based stuff on there!

It is super nice though...we can literally say,

"Alexa, what's the weather and what packages do I have arriving today?, set the pool temp to 84, set both thermostats in the house to 70, turn on all of the lights, play Zach Bryan, pre heat the oven to 375, turn on zone 3 (irrigation) for 10 minutes, order some more paper towels and tell me the Ph on the pool and remind me to take the garbage down"

I've been over 20 PPM FC now for about 2 weeks and still showing 1-3 PPM CC.

It was down to .5 CC on one test 3-4 days ago but then back up to 2 CC by the next test.

Water is crystal clear, 47 degrees and filter pressure hasn't budged.

Should I keep at it and no matter what basically my only option is to stay as close as I can to 28 PPM FC for as long as it takes?

No sir.

I cleaned one of my vials out one time then I've just been swapping between my 2 test vials since.

Ok so I had it down to .5 CC 3-4 days ago then the following day down to 0.0 CC...FC was held at 25-26...2 days ago I was at 0.0 CC and down to 16 FC, yesterday I was at 15 FC and 0.0 CC...today I'm still at 15-15.5 FC but CC is back up to 2.5!! I finally was able to check my PH yesterday and today and it measured out at 7.4 yesterday then 7.5 today.

Would you guys get immediately back up to SLAM level or see what happens over the next day or two? I've got a brand new test vial and new mixing pills on the way. I've now cleaned these ones 2-3 times in the last week or so.

Thanks,

Donnie

My target range is typically 8-11 with a cya around 80 through the summer. When it was way up at 25+ FC and I tested just for kicks it was reading off the chart high on the little pink color chart on the taylor test kit. This was the first time I've even tested PH in about 3 weeks...it may well be way off and inaccurate but I thought it may have been relevent to know where it tested and I'd guess whenever I get off of this SLAM level FC it's going to end up in the mid/high 7s with no adjustment but we shall see

Let it ride a couple days - this seems like a testing error unless you have something like a dirty auto fill thats adding water or something else is being added. 2.5 is pretty high for an overnight development in a clear pool even with a cover on it. Speaking of covers- have you cleaned your cover & checked the pit - if its an auto cover?

This evening I scrubbed the Crud out of the inside of the test tube with denatured alcohol and fresh Q tips. Re-tested very slowly in the dark with the light of the speedstir guiding me...16 FC and 0 CC :)

Have you been consistently cleaning your test vial with rubbing alcohol and drying before testing CC?
Evening sir, when you say consistently...do you clean your test vial with rubbing alcohol before each CC test? I normally would only test CC about once every 2 weeks and test FC every couple days at the least. I've only started cleaning the test tube at all whatsoever since you taught me that above so I'm just trying to learn if that is something that I should just add to to the regimen and how often you test for CC?

Best advice:

Just maintain FC for your CYA with this link-->FC/CYA Levels As a result, I don't test CC. It is just not a factor. Maintaining FC eliminates any CC issues.

The salt test is the worst for residual contamination. Use ammonia to clean the vial after the salt test, and rubbing alcohol for any other test. Just keep your vials clean.

Making more sense. Thank you. I will re read pool care basics.

I have maintanted FC at or above recommended levels for about 2-3 months now...since discovering TFP.

BUT...I ALWAYS tested 0.0 since raising FC to recommended TFP levels for our super hot (Redding CA is one of the most sunshine days of the year cities in the country)....THEN not long after I added the salt to convert....I bought the taylor salt test kit and used it quite a bit the first couple weeks as I dialed in the salt level. I never cleaned the vial. Couple weeks later...all of the sudden CC showing up on the test
