I had a slow leak all summer and could never find it, since closing the water continues to drop so it is in the liner somewhere. How long can I let the water go with a safety cover? I would rather let it drop to see if I can see where it stops but I have a safety cover (2 years old). How much can this drop without putting too much stress on the cover?

What type of pool are we discussing? Inground? Above ground?

Going By your media files I can tell it's inground and I think I see deck anchors so, if its a mesh cover there are no worries as long as there isn't a heavy dump of snow.
Oh sorry my signature disappeared. This is an in ground pool and an auto safety cover that is surface mounted. 40’ x 20’

Automatic safety cover is mounted on top of the deck and not under coping like they do on new builds.
