Spa Check Valve Replacement

Hey all! I've done some research here and I think my problem is the spa check valve. My spa is draining down overnight. Not really below the jets, but close.

I found a Jandy flapper replacement valve, looks like just some screws to remove the cover and swap out the flapper, is it that easy? I am going to change the filter, I imagine if I do it then it will drain that line of the water so I can make the swap? Some picture below to help give more context...

Yes. Do not use a power screwdriver...hand only. Replace the o-ring when you replace the flapper, if one doesn't come with the flapper. Lube with a silicone LUBRICANT (not sealant and not ptfe/teflon lube)

Sure.

Hey @PoolStored, nother question... My spa check valve runs vertically, so if I turn the filter off and unscrew the check valve will water start pouring out or will it stop and some point?

If the return is threaded and 1.5", you can use this...available at Ace.

If not threaded, get one of these...

In a pinch, you probably could stuff a rag in the hole long enough to exchange the flap.
OK, last one @PoolStored... 😂. Is there a tool to get the return cover off? I've got a plug coming so I haven't tried to remove the cover yet but it's got these two little notches. Are they hard to remove? Is there a tool?

@Jeffc2112 are we talking about the smaller one on the floor? Assuming yes.

Can you look on the parts and see if there is a manufacturer? Check on bottom of skimmer lids too...

@JamesW any ideas on the make of the spa return cover?

The likely tool will look like this (this if for Jandy Caretaker).

Yes correct, I'm guessing that smaller one is the return I need to plug to change the check valve flapper. I bet that tool will work, not sure how you could get a hold of it without something. It is all Jandy so that's probably it.
