Where to buy pool salt and are aftermarket pentair IC power boxes okay to use?

Ok I knew I looked for that salt! 😂

Just want to make sure I’m good using the “softener salt” rather than the “splash ready pool salt” ? 👍

10-4. Thank you. Thats perfect, same salt for 2 different systems at the house and it’s about $1.75 cheaper per bag with the 6 bag minimum

Pool fill spigot is 30 alk and 60 CH down by the pool.

Current #s in the pool are:

80 degrees
8.0 FC
70 CYA
7.5 PH
80 alkalinity
490 CH
CSI -.02

I like running the CYA high in the summer like this as I learn more because it’s 105-110 and dry /calm here from June-August then still hot sunny in may-September so a lot of sun.
Using the solar blanket I’ll typically add 1/2 gallon liquid 10% chlorine per day currently.
No blanket it’s about double that usage.

Really hopefully I can run the SWCG at 50-60% so I can ramp it up as it wears out/breaks in.

Will definitely add borates this coming May as well.

With a 44K pool and an IC 60, 50% output and 24/7 runtime on the pump will give you 2.7FC addition. This may be ok in Jun/Jul with cover on and no swimmers. Take the cover off and add swimmers, you will need to up the output/run time.

I'm in Ohio. I can use up to 5.5FC with sun and swimmers in the summer (June/July). I will be super surprised if you can run 50-60% and keep FC up. You are probably ok, for normal operations with cover on and no swimmers, but you will have to increase output and run time with pool open and swimmers.

If you use a solar cover, and don't have that many swim days, you may be OK. 90% output will give you 4.9FC

wears out/breaks in
This is not a thing. It produces some amount of FC based on output % and pump run time. There is no break in.

Depending on your results, you may consider adding multiple cells. You have a large pool in a sunny area.

Copy that. I read somewhere on here that the SWCG ideally is “ramped up” over time as the cell “wears out”

Can I still always add say a gallon liquid a couple hours before a summer kids bday party to up the FC rather than running at 100% or is life of a cell relatively constant regardless of whether it’s running at 60% vs 90-100% ?

Two separate questions.

When I have swimmers, I up the output % for the duration of the swim, until I close for the day. 30K pool, 15% is fine for no swimmers, solar cover. Run 50-60% when I open the pool until I close. FC stays steady. Should work fine.

The life of the cell is the same. 40% for 24 hours, or 80% for 12 hours. Same Same.

Running 100% for 24/7 is the quickest way to kill a cell. Running for 100% to cover usage for the day is not an issue.

Got it.

So realistically I’ll be running something like 20-25% all winter then up to 40-60% depending on covered/no swimmers vs open/swimmers times through the summer and then up to 90% when we have 20 people in the pool for a couple three hours
