Can't turn off pool pump unless cut power

Hello,

Since last week my pool will keep running until I cut the power. I can't turn it off with either the outdoor control panel (ex putting it in service mode) or the indoor control. Schedules also do not work. Only thing that happens when pressing filter pump in service mode is that the pool rpm changes.

All the relays seem to work fine. I replaced the one for the pool pump regardless but it did not help.

Sometimes when turning the pool on the Aux1 light flashes. You can see the relay for Aux 1 is disconnected, I believe that is because we removed the heater since it was leaking and never used it. Plugging it in changes nothing.

Any ideas?

IMG_0997.JPEG. The bottom left relay looks to be the pump relay (it should be top left) and it has a burned spots on it, terminal 1 and 3. Why are both wires in those terminals? Do you have a VSP?
If not, the two that go to the pump should be in 2 and 4, the power from the breaker in 1 and 3. As it is now, the pump would have continuous power, but if it is a VSP that's the way it should be and not controlled by a relay.
Also, find out why that relay burned. Could be a loose wire that gets hot or a problem with the motor drawing too many amps.

Thank you, I appreciate the help. The pump relay on the bottom left is disconnected, I do have a VSP but it says it is set to relay control. I did not see any damaged wires but the top left relay did feel quite warm.

I am going to have a different pool company come out and look at replacing the board and redoing the wiring since I was planning on doing the Aqualink wifi upgrade anyway and I'm not confident doing it myself.

Which pump do you have? Why is is set to relay control?
 
Have a Hayward TriStar VS 950 with a Jandy control panel. From my understanding it is in relay mode to allow the Jandy to be able to control it.
The lower-left relay, with the burned terminals, is sending constant power to the pump, good. It looks like the top left is the relay that, when actuated, will tell the pump to run at one speed only. Turn the "filter pump" off. Does the pump stop? No? Disconnect the small wires from that relay on terminals 1 and 2 and see if the pump stops. If so that relay is bad (welded contacts).
 
Thanks for your help. Turning off the filter pump does not work. Disconnecting the small wires on terminal 1 and 2 does not turn off the pump. I did replace the two left relays just in case but did not change anything. I also checked the wires for any damage, but nothing. So I believe the board is bad.
 
Which board do you mean? I doubt the problem is the Aqualink. Sounds like the pump either got out of configuration somehow, or the board is fried.

Can you use the pump's controls to turn off "relay mode" so it can be controlled without the Aqualink? If not, then it's the pump control board.

Otherwise, make sure that it _is_ in relay mode and that the timer speeds are set correctly. E.g. if somehow they all got set to non-zero (say someone's kids fiddled with it), then the pump will never switch off.

The relays select timer speeds. If you have only 1 relay in use, it's speeds 1 and 2. Presumably you'd want speed 1 to be zero rpm, and 2 to be a normal speed. Two relays gets you speeds 1 to 4. Three gets 1 to 8. Four gets you 1 to 8 plus "off." It's hard to tell how many relays are controlling speeds from your pictures. What do you have when everything is working?

Thanks for the reply. I had someone come out and take a look at the issue. He moved one of the wires on the bottom left relay (aux 1) from terminal 1 to terminal 2, same for terminal 3, one wire was moved to terminal 4, so now there is one wire on each terminal. After that he plugged in the relay into the board (was unplugged before) and it is now working again. Not sure why the old wiring worked for several years but not after I replaced the relay, but happy pool is controllable now and don't have to turn it on/off manually anymore.

I'm glad it's working for you, but what he did was make the 240 vac power to the pump switched on and off by the pump relay. VSPs with control boards like the VS 950 are not supposed to be wired like that. They are supposed to get continuous power and be controlled by separate circuits. Probably that's the relay with the thinner wires.

But if the pump's control board is fried or mis-configured anyway, maybe this will be a workaround. I suppose you don't have any speed control, right?

I am able to control the speed on the pump and clean mode with the higher rpm also works. thanks
