All right, so I pulled the trigger for the Aquastar. But I've been curious about something... is it bad, or a strain on the pump if it's running, but the spa is not spilling over? With my current filter, at lower speeds, the spa will not spill over... that's when I know it's time to clean it.

Nothing bad for your pump or filter but your spa may not be getting the chlorination it needs.

NEVER DO THIS!

This is incredibly dangerous and the top can come off with enough force to seriously injure or kill someone.

Technically, I have never done it. The pool guy did it. He said it's the only way with these older stainless steel ones. The alternative is poking and prying which can damage filter, or o-ring. I have him come out once or twice a year just to do that.

Hey Guys, once I get my filter and start the job... I don't want to go through the dangers and hassle of opening my Pentair/Purex lid. After turning off pump, and opening pump lid to release more pressure... can I just then saw right at the filter's outlet and let the water gush out? Any reason I shouldn't do that?

Filter is here.. exciting! I asked above if I can just cut the pipe after turning off pump, but I realize I can just do everything the conventional way. So instead of using pressure, like my pool guy, to blow the lid open. I can shut everything off properly, and simply poke and pry with a flathead since I no longer care about damaging it. Cool beans.

I got it and recommend it. Does a real good job. Easy cleaning with no tools required. Element does seem to get dirty a little faster but I have had construction going on the entire time so it’s expected. Bought another element and just keep rotating them out. If paired with a pipeline pump manufacturer will extend warranty to 3 years.

About a year ago, I had my eye on this filter. But I said let me wait and see if there are more discussions as more people use it. But it seems any info about this filter and discussions are all old. Especially disappointing in YouTube that there hasn't been any new videos of people installing, showing off, reviewing this filter. The only videos are still just from the popular SPL guy. I know a user BLUESILV around here installed it and liked it. Another year has passed, those who own this... Do you still recommend it?
I’ve owned my inground pool for 40 years and have always had trouble keeping my pool clear. I’ve used de filters for the past 30 years but this year I bought the aqua star pool cartridge filter and I can’t get over how trouble free my pool has been all season. I can’t say enough about this filter and how clear my pool is. No backwashing or putting filter powder in. After struggling to open my de filter for years this aqua star is a breeze. If your considering the aqua star you definitely cannot go wrong, it’s amazing!
