IC40 high salt reading and barely produces chlorine.

My IC40 salt cell has the high salt light flashing.

I have tested multiple times with the Taylor kit and it shows my salinity reading at 3400ppm, so I'm confident that the actual levels are good.

The cell is about 5 years old.

Pool temp is high 80s

I cleaned the cell a few days ago.

The cell barely produces chlorine, even at 100% output, I can't seem to get above an FC of 1.

Is there anything else I can do to salvage the cell or troubleshoot?

Welcome to TFP.

Does your pool pass the Overnight Chlorine Loss Test? If not, you have algae consuming the chlorine being produced and need to follow the SLAM Process.

What test kit do you use?

Thanks for your response. I attempted to do an OCLT last night using my k-2006.

I did add a lot more chlorine than I needed. I must have put something in wrong in Pool Math.

start: 9.2
end: 8

However, I don't think I was aggressively swishing the solution enough last night. The pink was towards the bottom of the vile.

So, I will redo it tonight and report back.

FWIW the pool is crystal clear. I fired the pool guy just a few weeks ago and still pretty new to all this. I did have to shock it a few times and it badly needed a brushing as it was noticeably green.

You can have algae with clear water.

From everything you describe you need to follow the SLAM Process

alright, so the results of another ONCT

start: 4.2
end: 3.4

combined chlorine: .2

I mornonically forgot to turn of my UV light system which I know breaks down the chlorine,

So with a loss of only .8 FC, am I correct to assume that I passed the test and the culprit really is the SWG?

It is sketchy if you pass.

Do it again tonight and turn off the UV.

You really should have close to a 0 loss starting from that low a FC level.
