Should I test for phosphates or be patient and wait for my CYA to go up ( I just added stabilizer to bump it to 50) over the next 24 hours since my FC is so low here are my details…

Friday night we had a huge rain Saturday woke up to a very cloudy pool. Did my Taylor testing and worked on the pool all of Saturday had my SWG on 100 for 24 hours on Sunday I do currently have a silk guard complete multi benefit chlorinating stick in a floater.
I’m just wondering if I should be proactive and go get a phosphate test today as I do not have any of those tests here at my home. Or be patient and wait for CYA to go up in 24 hours?

We do not generally test for phosphates here as it is deemed largely unnecessary with proper chlorine levels.

• Phosphates – Doesn’t matter, despite pool stores claiming otherwise. Proper maintenance of your FC makes phosphate levels irrelevant.

Ah ok. I would suggest starting the SLAM process. How much did you add? 30 is considered ideal for doing a SLAM although you can do it at higher CYA levels without issue.

Regardless, phosphates are meaningless.

It’s a sock of granules so I could pull it out to keep my CYA close to 30 since it’s only been over an hour. Should I turn my SWG up to 100 for 24 hours or do you recommend sodium hypochlorite 10% chlorinating liquid pool essentials from Menards?

You could keep the SWG running at your normal level, but it will not provide the chlorine you need for a SLAM. For that it is best to get liquid chlorine as you will be adding chlorine several times a day until the SLAM is completed.

Yes - if you are going to do the SLAM, then remove the CYA and add it when the SLAM is complete.
