So looks like I finally got some mustard alage. Noticed it a few days ago in a small section of the pool. FC was normal, ran a OCLT and it was 0.6. Brushed it away and didn’t think twice, my mistake. Went away for 3 days and came back and now it’s mostly over the floor of the pool. Came here and realized I screwed up.

My question is, besides the mustard alage, my pool is crystal clear. No debris and filter pressure is spot on. I just started the SLAM process to follow up with the mustard alage levels to clear it all. If I do an OCLT test tonight and it’s below 1 and meet the rest of the standards, can I get away with a 24 hour SLAM and then move right into the mustard alage 24 hour deal?

Current numbers:
6.6 FC
0.0 CC
7.3 PH
100 Akalanity
70 CYA
375 Hardness

People rarely have mustard algae.

The biggest problem with failed SLAMs is people rush them. Algae does not let you "get away" with any shortcuts.

Do the SLAM properly and meet all three exit criteria. Then you can raise your FC up to mustard algae levels.

So I researched it a lot on here about mustard alage because I agree, I don’t think it’s common. But, it looks exaclty like the pictures. Looked like dust when I swept it up with a defiantly yellow tint in it. It started in the shaded side of my pool and moved throughout.

What caught me off guard when I first saw it was the OCLT was only 0.6 and my FC has been holding 6.6 this whole time.

Mustard algae will consume chlorine.

It sounds to me like you have some other debris in your pool.

But if you want to spend money on chlorine then go for it.

No FC loss = no algae, regular or mustard.

So what do you think it would be. We haven’t had any significant storms roll through and no dust storms either. At first it started in the shade of the pool and moved throughout the rest of the wall on the shade side and then to the pool floor. I guess we will see what tonight’s OCLT brings.

Just saw this message. I bought some chorline already. So I’ll just try and see what the OCLT does tonight

For ease of tests in the future, switch to the 10ml water sample for the tests so each drop of R-0871 is 0.5ppm FC. Itll save test reagents and be easier/faster.

I do not know your local environment.

Do you have a pool cleaner that runs daily?

I have a suction vacuum that I usually try and run a few times a week. Maybe need to run it more often

Run it every day. If you have no FC loss and a clean pool then things should be good.
