Green pool. Just got TF-100 test kit. Still confused on how to start.

Pool was turning green and was cloudy for like a week and I couldn’t get it clear. Then I ordered the tf-100 and haven’t touched the pool in 3 days waiting for it to come and now it looks like a swamp

And now that I have the test kit in front of me I’m still hesitant on what to do first. Do I start the slam process right away? Is there anything I have to do before that? Can somebody offer some insight on what I should do first and how to figure this out. I know I have to buy a lot of liquid chlorine but am still confused with what to test on my pool first. I just want to get my pool clear again. First week I opened it, it was crystal clear but right after shocking it with green-out, it got cloudy and greener by the day.
Any help or links to help me out would be appreciated thank you

You didn't mention the pH, but as long as it is between 7.2-7.5 that's good. If the pH is higher than 7.5, lower it a bit with muriatic acid.

After that, add 10 ppm worth of stabilizer via the sock method. If you don't know about that let us know.

Finally, use liquid chlorine to increase and maintain a SLAM FC is "12". Follow the SLAM Process for best success. If you have any questions let us know.

I’m not familiar with the sock stabilizer method if you can point me in the right direction there.

And as far as liquid chlorine, should I be adding a gallon everyday? And when u say 12, I want to maintain my pool at 12 PPM for free chlorine daily? Like is free chlorine the only thing I’m supposed to be testing daily?

And while I’m going through the spam process, should I be brushing and backwashing daily? Multiple times a day? I’m sorry, I’m an over thinker and this pools kicking my butt and I feel so defeated. I appreciate all your help, I really do. Thank you

For the sock, fill a tube sock with the required granular stabilizer, then let it pre-soak in the pool for at least 30 min. Then take it over to the return jets and squeeze it all out. Done.

Yes, increase the FC to 12 and do your best to keep it there, schedule permitting of course.

Brush daily and vacuum as needed. Clean filter when the pressure increases by about 25% from the clean pressure.

Started the slam process 2 nights ago and FC was 3.5. I added 1 gallon of liquid chlorine each night and now my FC is at 2.5.

I’m confused because I thought one gallon of liquid chlorine would boost it up a lot. Am I supposed to also leave in chlorine tablets?
My pool is 10,000 gallons and I’m sure I have to dial it in to maintain a FC of 10 to try and clear my algae but is there any tips on what I should do to get it there? Like am I really supposed to dump 3 gallons of liquid chlorine every night?

Thanks in advance for any help

Re-read the slam process. It is a process, not a once a day thing. Print these out, read them, and keep them with you...Link-->SLAM Process

You need to test FC at least 3-4 times a day, every couple of hours is even better.

Take the tablets out. Raise your CYA another 10ppm.

Hey there :).
Have you a proper test kit? Which test kit are you using?

You need more CYA- at least 30ppm

Which are the chlorine pucks you're using, and how long have you used them? Do they contain Calcium or CYA? Brand?

Have you read the article on how to perform the SLAM Process to kill algae?? It is NOT a one-time dose. SLAM Process

What strength liquid chlorine did you use? In a 10,000 gallon pool a gallon of 10% shoul d raise you 10ppm FC. But with your hot days and not enough CYA it will disappear in hours. Also algae eats it up.

Testing your FC multiple times per day, and replacing lost chlorine up to your SLAM level helps it go faster.

Wow ok I didn’t think chlorine burned off that fast. Just got my test kit a couple days ago so I never kept track. Ok so I’ve gotta dial this in quick because I work 10 hour days and don’t get home til after 6 so not a lot of time to be monitoring my FC levels. I know the target is 10 but would I be hurting anything if my FC was over 10? I put in a gallon tonight and can check in the morning but in the middle of the day I can have my wife dump in half a gallon 🤷🏻‍♂️.

And as far as raising my CYA. You have any recommendations on what to use?

I appreciate the help. Yes 10% liquid chlorine. And as far as my chlorine pucks, I’ll get back to you tomorrow with the brand. It’s pouring out by me. And I’ve had these pucks for YEARS. Previous relative that took care of the pool had them when I started attempting to take care of the pool so it could be 3 or 4 years old.

I’ll let you know what brand sometime tomorrow. Thanks for the help

No need to go over, it will just waste chlorine. Test every 2 hours when you are home.

Use Dry Chlorine Stabilizer. Use the sock method.

You guys are great! My pool is Chrystal clear now and my algae is gone. My CC is either .5 or 1….1 drop in on the CC test and it was the faintest pink and then after the 2nd drop it was definitely clear.

But as far as my cya. I’m not a huge fan of the test of looking down into the tube and recording when you don’t see the black dot anymore. Seems like there’s too much left to personal opinion. I’m not sure if they mean record the cya when the black dot is completely invisible or what because when I squint I can still see it. I put down a 22 for cya but I can still see the black dot faintly.

Last night I put in dry chlorine stabilizer using the sock method and my cya is similar to what it was a few days ago. Does it take awhile for the cya to go up or what?

So I believe my CC level is good enough to be done with slamming and my pool is Chrystal clear.
Only thing that’s left is seeing how much chlorine I lose overnight. So tonight I’ll record the FC and then do the same in the morning to see if I’m all done with the slam.
I’m worried with my cya still being low that I’ll lose a lot of chlorine today. Currently it’s at 10 ppm. I’ll continue monitoring that level today and trying to maintain that 10 ppm.

Any advice as far as my cya goes. Put a pound into the sock last night. Add more today or give it time?
