I have been spiraling with reading so many threads about mustard algae. My brain hurts. I already read about the SLAM method and understand that part. I just need clarification on what all needs to be cleaned and how? Does our wood deck need to be cleaned as well? How crazy do I need to be about everything involving the pool? I’m a total type A and I’m wondering if I need to treat this like I do when one of my kiddos gets sick. Lysol everything!!! 🤣 Any advice would be appreciated!

Did you see that the overwhelming majority are a newb with regular plain old algae ?

Because mustard algae is rare and frequently used to cover why the dump and pray methods of the pool store don't work.

No

For the pool itself you need to be an algae ninja assassin. It hides many places in plain sight. Ladder rails, light niches, auto fills, etc. Every inch is suspect until it's been scrubbed or flushed.

Let anything else dry out and anything on it will be dead.

I’m assuming it’s mustard algae. Looks like sand, dissipates when I try to pick it up, dark brown color. The pool is clear. Spots have shown up scattered around and of course some gather in the middle due to the return jet pushing it there. It’s been around for a 2-3 weeks. Comes back after we swim and it settles. We slacked a bit on vacuuming after opening the pool at the end of May. At opening we vacuumed it, added what we needed to it and had some issues with the SWG but got that figured out after a few days and then a vacay came along and things got busy.
