As a beginner, I am grateful to the TFP pool experts for providing me with a wealth of pool knowledge!
I started my first SLAM. According to the instructions on the forum, I should keep the pump running 24/7. However, the design of my pool's plumbing causes the spa to spill over continuously when I start the filter pump. I know aeration raises pH and results in chlorine loss. What should I do? Can I turn off the pump at night?

HI and welcome to TFP!

It is a good thing to keep the water in the spa fresh while doing a SLAM. As such you should keep doing what you are doing. The PH will go up a bit from the running of the pump so you can add just a bit of acid to bring it down but not really a big deal. The spill over of a spa does not affect FC though so that is no worry.

Thank you! I feel less anxious now because your reply. I did two test during last night. It’s seems like no significant difference in chlorine concentrations decrease between spilling or stop spilling. Although I can smell strong chlorine odor when I near the spillovers.

The strong smell of chlorine is your "waste" chlorine. SAY WHAT??? I did not know that until I found TFP. That smell is the off gassing of the chlorine as it does it's job............GO CLORINE! :kim: That is the small of stuff dying and that is a good thing!
