Good morning. So yesterday the motor went out on my spa pump. Just a loud grinding noise no priming, etc. I went up to my local pool supply store and going by the pictures I took of the metal plate attached to the pump, he said it was a 1 HP motor. The actual labels on the motor itself are long worn off but the house was built in 1989 so I’m sure it had been replaced at some time since then. We bought he house in 2020. This motor/pump/filter operates the spa. There is a separate motor/pump/filter that operates the pool. I also have a heater that can operate either pool or spa independently of one another by switching valves. The spa if I had to guess is about 400 gallons and has 4 returns and several holes in the seats where air is pushed thru via a blower located nearby. The guy wanted $600 to do the job. I remember years ago I changed out a similar motor (when I was younger!) and didn’t find it too difficult. I can get a new 1 hp motor for about $250 if I can do it myself. My question are from what I see online, the Starite pump that I have is a A5F 125L and that it fits several different size motors. If that is so, how does he know it is 1 hp that I have? Also, when we bought the house it had one of those newer style pump/motors with the variable digital stuff on it that operated the pool which I don’t think were even available back when the house was built so I don’t know if that Stariite pump originally did both spa and pool or not. We had to have it replaced two years ago when it burned up. Right before that we had the pool remodeled and added a pool heater and the guy reworked all the external pvc piping and valves to accommodate the configuration. Anyhow..in a nutshell should a 1 hp motor work with this pump and do you think it will be sufficient to do what’s needed for that spa. Thanks and apologize for the long post.
